Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th)

Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday morning, Saturday morning

Recap

A moderate pulse of S'ly swell was seen yesterday to a solid 4ft across south facing beaches during the morning but conditions were poor with a fresh onshore wind. The swell eased into the afternoon but a secondary pulse of S'ly swell has filled in today keeping 3ft to occasionally 4ft sets hitting south facing beaches.

Conditions were again poor with a persistent and fresh onshore breeze, although certain areas of the Illawarra saw morning land breezes.

This week (Jan 9-10)

The mid-latitude low responsible for the last two days of S'ly swell has been moving off slowly towards New Zealand while continuing to am a broad fetch of strong to gale-force S/SE winds towards us.

This will result in south facing beaches continuing to pick up plenty of S/SE swell into the end of the week while slowly easing as winds improve, tending variable tomorrow morning and then light offshore from the NW Friday morning.

This weekend onwards (Jan 11 - 12)

The S/SE swell will continue to fade into the weekend, but Saturday will still offer fun waves across south facing beaches, while Sunday will be poor with a weak S'ly change and small to tiny swell.

Longer term there's nothing major on the cards besides small levels of S'ly and NE windswell. Therefore make the most of the waves over the coming days.
