Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 30th December)
Best Days: Wednesday morning, Friday in protected spots, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning
Recap
Saturday saw fun waves across the coast as a new SW swell filled in under offshore E/SE winds. The swell backed off through yesterday with average S'ly winds.
Today a strong new SW groundswell has filled in across the state, building from 4ft early to an easy 6-8ft in the South West and from a tiny 1ft around Perth to a bigger 2ft this afternoon. Gero also increased in size but winds S/SE-SE winds limited the best surf to semi-protected spots.
This week (Dec 30 – Jan 3)
Today's strong pulse of SW groundswell should peak this evening across most spots, although Gero will see a peak overnight/maybe even dawn before a drop in size during tomorrow.
Winds will be average though with a early S'ly expected to swing onshore during the morning as a cold front pushes across the bottom of the state.
This will bring with it a moderate increase in W/SW swell Wednesday with light variable SE winds around Margs and Perth but S'ly winds around Gero.
A larger W/SW groundswell is on the cards for Friday as a strong polar front directs a fetch of SW gales up and into us during the middle of this week (pictured right). A peak to 6-8ft is expected Friday afternoon in the South West with 2-3ft waves in Perth and 4-5ft surf up at Gero but with onshore S'ly winds.
This weekend onwards (Jan 4 onwards)
The weekend's looking great with a slow drop in swell from Friday but with more favourable offshore winds. A small-moderate SW swell is on the cards for Monday but we'll see how this pans out on Wednesday.
