What's what?
@Factom.
Didn't Jacinta get voted in by the local people in 2015 and then voted in again as top scoring candidate in 2017?. (now running for federal seat of Lingiari next election)
That doesn't happen without support from the people.
Yeah I'm sure she has got her haters she is a strong women with strong views that doesn't sugar coat things, it's very easy to tell people what they want to hear, but not what they need to hear.
And yeah if your asking people at the pub (generally a predominate male demographic) i don't expect they are going to be her fan base after all she does focus on the rights and plights of women and children.
Hmmm your evaluation sounds like cognitive bias to me, not actually looking at all the facts but forming an opinion on limited bubble type information.
@Guy
It's a forum we talk about topics and news of the day or things that interest us, each of us have different areas we have interest in for various reasons .
For instance some like to talk about Trump or wars in the middle east, or about Australian politics or climate change or China or refugee or Indigenous issues.
Many of those topics don't interest me in the slightest and i have little opinion on them Aboriginal issues and Refugee issues interest me because i don't feel much of the media paints a very good picture of these issues and most of the time we get feed cliche views and lines especially from parties like the Greens.
None of us are ranting or expecting to make change, i don't even expect to change anyones views, but at the very least I'm going to post links ect to show that there is different views out there, in this particular topic that not all Indigenous people feel the same and like all groups of people they have varied views.
Thats all i wanted to show in the Australia day thread, apart from also showing people that the date does have historic and cultural significance, which is denied over and over again.
The topic reignited from the article Factom posted, bit who knows it might morth into something else tomorrow, who knows.
BTW. views and opinion are also a bit fluid, i haven't had a look in that Adam Goodes thread i still don't agree on how he went about things, but my view on some things in there might have changed, same with the very old refugee thread, ideas and solutions i had i now no longer agree with, after i have learnt more and understand they are not realistic.
I mean technically it would probably surprise you that the party I've voted for the most times is the Greens as when i was young i always blindly voted for them, then i often voted Labor, and then for the past few years I've pretty much just left it blank, although many of my social beefs etc are in line with Liberals I've never actually voted Liberal (because I'm not a high income earner, so always worry if i vote for them, they will do something silly that affects me, like lower the tax free threshold. etc
"I first got the invite to visit from a friend of mine who lives there. She's a lawyer that was involved in the fairly recent Royal Commission into the Detention and Protection of Children in the Northern Territory. You may have heard of it.
Anyway, she picks me up from the airport, and we go see some cool stuff, meet her friends, colleagues and other good people. At their homes and at the pubs.
Very political people up there. Always found that to be so. Especially when you're at the real pointy end.
The upshot of all this blather? You best not, do not, even sometimes cannot mention Jacinta and her family without consequence, unless you're prepared to face it. And it would be rude and disrespectful in some circumstances. They have caused real hurt to a lot of people. And are hated by many more."
Would you expect any different from the people you hang out with?
Talk about confirmation bias!!!!
Yes four!!!!
Indo, a lot of ridiculous assumptions there. As evidenced by her media and PR outings, who do you think supports Jacinta Price (well, apart from yourself and like-minded travellers)? What do you think the demographic make-up of Alice is like?
And on my trips to Alice of course women were there, every time. In homes, cafes and yes, pubs. Women and men of all persuasions. And they talk!
FFS! I WAS THERE! YOU WEREN'T. How can you reason with this ridiculousness?!
Stop!!!! You're killing us!!!!
Bitcoin, mate!!!! Get back on the Bitcoin!!!!
"Would you expect any different from the people you hang out with?"
And you'd know? How, Curls?
Been to the Alice?
Had a beer in the Riverside Bar at the Todd?
Shit beer, good crew.
Factom i dont deny she has haters, that's a good thing, if you don't have haters as well as lovers, you probably are pretty wishy washy, same old same old
But didnt the Alice spring public voter her in?
Isn't that how councillors are voted in? ..
It takes a majority to vote people in, especially when she had the highest number of votes.
So painting a picture that everyone doesn't like her or agree with her would be incorrect and actually more the opposite. Yes?
I've been in the NT for near on 4 years now, yes surf starved, but a short cheap trip to Indo for my fix.
My work has predominately had me in and around Arnhem Land (mostly around Murgenella, Maningrida, Milingimbi) and I get to meet and spend quite a bit of time with the T.O's and elders here. It is fantastic.
One thing that stands out in all the conversations I had, is that they are fed up with people holding protests supposedly in their interests in the capital cities. Those protesters don't represent them or their interests and probably have had very little cultural exchanges with them other than a quick chat with "Mary" at the servo in Jabiru.
NSW T.O's, Qld T.O's, WA T.O's, etc etc all want different things and agree and disagree on all matter of subjects. They can't all be bundled into one group and say this is what they all want. It changes from State to region.
They couldn't give a flying @#$% about Australia Day or it's date. If it wasn't the English that settled, it could have just as easily have been the Dutch, Portuguese, French, Asian, who ever the @#$% and it could have been for the better or worse.
So stop bundling them all up into one group or representation and they are as diverse as we all are.
Interesting post Fitzroy and nice to see your name pop up again lately :D
I know some crew from alice, never really spent time there. I'd imagine they'd hate jacinta price.
I imagine a lot of people hate jacinta price, she's pretty provocative, a bit much for me on some issues, but I say good on her, she obviously believes in what she's doing.
Attacking her and not her ideas, who would've thought...
Sorry I have to post this after fittzroy's post
https://m.
Enough to make you change your mind
Yes it's a cleverly edited video from some wacky alliance, but apparently so was your's facto
Ok facto, I went back looking for your video, couldn't find it, can't find your last post either. You doing creative 'editing' again? (whilst picking up, and more importantly on, everyone else's editing I might add).
Anyway, I found this. One can only assume the full version of your little spliced up piece of splendour...
"@Factom
In reply to your link from last night that was very bias and misleading, you should probably check out the whole incident and video.
Much different picture when not taken out of context and completely owned by Jacinta
https://www.facebook.com/Studio10au/videos/2151294755122364/?__tn__=kCH-...
I've gotta agree, Lydia was a bit 'owned' by Jacinta.
I found this whole vid most interesting. Firstly KAK just about made me cack. If she's going to talk about shit, at least do some fucking research! Broad generalising statements, that meant little, did her no favours at all, she looked dumb. Secondly, if she is gonna go there, calm your fuckng farm! Going off half cocked about non descript matters just made her look even dumber. Totally agree with many aboriginals, KAK, and prue mcswine, have no place commenting on aboriginal issues.
Now to lovely Lydia, who's politics I pretty much align with....apparently... maybe...(barring some pretty fundamental differences about priorities).
Anyway, good old Lydia came across as your typical mainstream politician, blabbering about just about everything and anything, everything besides the questions she was asked that is. It was actually embarrassing for Lydia, as she constantly reverted to her contrived, pre concieved, 'talking points' that address just about anything but the subject at hand (exactly like labor and liberals do daily!). You could see the frustration on jacinta's face as Lydia just went over the same old, tired old shit, again and again.
Then she pulled her trump card out "white privilege" (haha for you facto). You could almost hear australia collectively sigh as she pulled that rubbish out of thin air, totally out of place, totally out of context, just plain old desperate, as she felt her position slipping away.
Jacinta owned the day.
Lydia just put another nail in the coffin of you know what factobum. Put it to rest mate, it's done.
Funny you posted that video Sypkan i saw that the other day while searching for a video hoping to get everyday Aboriginal people views (but no luck)
I wish they would have just showed everyone's views in that video though, not just the drop kicks with no idea, would have been nice to have heard more educated views .
Surely all the crowd can't be that stupid.
it was creative editing. And it was totally unfair.
But geez it was quite funny...
Matias korman on RN yesterday, sounded a bit hyperventilating and desperate as he laid into labor and fielded questions about his own party.
Just to show sco-mo has absolutely nothing new to offer, matias trotted out sco-mo's 'plan' for 1.25 million jobs over the next five years. Coincidentally, very similar to tony abbott's 'plan' for 1 million jobs over five years. Innovative folk these guys. Real thinkers.
A particular highlight was when the announcer pointed out that out of tony's 1 million jobs created, 600 000 went to temporary visa holders.
It'd be funny if it wasn't so fucking pitiful.
Have a think, Curls. You can't just disappear comments. I haven't got that power.
Yet I see your video of this bloke is still on here.

Good night and good luck!!!!
So it wasn't your 'edit'. I did think that for a minute, but you know, don't let the truth get in the way of a good slurfest...you never do...
I didn't really believe it was deleted actually, I thought it was rather mild.
About the vid. I never said he was a good bloke. I said he's wacky and unfair, it was a bit funny though.
You really just gotta stop giving these guys so much material factobum.
How many of these do your guys tick off?

Chick the links on the left .... reckon some of you would down to at least 10.
Lets start with cheery picking, that's one
Average week in the forums? A-Z I reckon.
OK my nomination for No 1 would be alleged certainty, closely followed by appeal to emotion
You're a big fan of the appeal to emotion BB ;)
Which category would equating sexism with treason come under ?
I like to vary my fallacious arguments a bit . Mix it up , keep it fresh.
One of my favourites Andy. It bypasses the brain completely. Why think when you can rely completely on your endocrine system?
Ok. Anyway youse know what, seeing as everyone else is saying it... it must be... anyway... thank you... in a nutshell... again.
Bloody ‘ell, its been literally a week from hell... for swillnuts. Bento and stupled have made it clear... it wasn’t in the plan... you know, a fuckin webby, sure... why not... but fuck’n workin’ on it as well...
Let’s face it, it ain’t the cliff top, or the drink for that matter, coz I never saw one of the swillnut clan boyz there, ever, not even once, never ever... Anyway it seemed like a great idea... again... goofball’s ‘rub a dub dub, three loony swillnuts in a tub/lets use Cryppy as a boat anchor/fuck’n ‘ell he’s a big, pristine, muscular, raw boned cunt/lets be ship jumpers, and get fuckin’ bento instead...’
Ok, why not... ’cept drastically overworked bento arced up and spilled his guts... goofer’s riding ‘the mid and dribs’ on a custom built, specially constructed, absolutely ludicrously proportioned, beak snouted, gargantuan, catamaran like craft. Again.
No surfboard deserves that fate. Not that. Although the poor shaper already knows the fucker’s doomed. ‘I wanna fird reef pipe model wiv speshalized shite on it aye... wiv litres and shite... an’ a beaked farkin’ snout on ver gargantuan farker... and a landin’ pad fur me farkin’ drones... Aye... wot, we’ll... errrr... probs at christie’s... slabberin’ y steps... or farkin outside farkin’ frobbin’ booma’... aaaye...’
Still... ok, logistically, early dayz but... in the swillnut yogerizin’ hall of fame... again...
‘You should be finding that yoglin’ has a... excuse me... is that a fucking tooth stickin’ out of your fuck’n elbow...???!?!?!....’
‘Yer aaye, vere’s more of em scattered in ver grass out ver front of ‘Walton’s Valley primary... it’s a farkin’ paradise aaayyeee...’
‘Ok, but excuse me is that a piece of nasal bone impaled in your knee...????!!??...’
‘Aye... wot... shite... I couldn’t see frew vere mist aye...’
‘And is that blood all over your new Slazenger Yogertrons???!!!!!****##**!!?...
‘Yer, vey corst me fark all aye, soze I can boot ver twitchin’, livin’ shite out of ver Walton’s Paradise farkin’ locals... farkin’ no one cunt molls... agin’... Aye is vat a farkin’ burka ya wearin’... coz I gotta a mmaaayyyte who wouldn’t mind signin’ up soze he can coat hanger ya... you’ll like ‘im aaaye... IMHO...’
Still early dayz but... down at the swillnut... discount yogerizin’ club... logically speakin’... again... in a nutshell...
Thank you.
.
Up early ...
Today's Logical Fallacy is Argument by Repetition. That will be two then
Hang on, just found Argument by Selective Reading also known as cherry picking (already counted) and Selected Attention Fallacy. Total is now Four .... I'm now thinking my original estimate of 10 is was an underestimate.
How ironic the use of all these word here by some, logical fallacies, cognitive bias, virtue signaling.
Maybe people should look in the mirror.
Perhaps there is a logical fallacy for this, I might check later and it then be FIVE.
Bummer. Too much KAK on here? Just won't go away...
https://www.sbs.com.au/topics/life/culture/article/2019/01/30/what-was-r...
Ha ha what a crap article...the only one derailing of the topic was Yumi with the typical racist call, used just to shut down the conversation because she felt uncomfortable because she couldn't answer the questions because she doesn't have the answers and just reverted to typical textbook cliches

Virtue signalling = label given by racists, sexists, homophobes etc to those suggesting tolerance, good manners and reasonable behaviour.
What about ignorant dismissive remarks about other people's issues eh? Let's talk about that now.
“I spend a lot of time inside the world of delightful rain”.
Hah! Not here, BB, not here. Too much weak and miserable drizzle. More's the pity.
At least, it's not a flood. Too inconsequential when it all comes down to it.
Rock on, comrade.
Virtue signalling, is exactly what its definition is.
In basic terms.
"To take a conspicuous but essentially useless action ostensibly to support a good cause but actually to show off how much more moral you are than everybody else.
Fred: I see George has changed his profile picture to show his support for refugees.
Barbara: Has he donated money or time? Is he giving English lessons? Is he making a room available?
Fred: No, no, he's just virtue signalling."
Its basically just a way for people to feel good about themselves and feel superior and feel like the problems are dealt with, without actually dealing with real problems.
For example thousands marching on the streets to change Australia day while ignoring real indigenous issues.
The examples are endless, especially today with social media and other cause sign websites etc
All that said personally i try not to use the word although its relevant to so many topics discussed here, i try my best to not insult, using big words or riddles to insult isn't any different to using basic words to insult, both are boring, personally id rather stick to the topic and debate the topic rather than belittle the person posting.
Water temp hit 16 degrees near here yesterday.
A couple of points Indo. First the use of this term, as you define it, suggests that the person using it can determine someone else's motivation. This is always uncertain, so its use represents a decision to attribute the worst available motive to their behaviour.
Second, thousands marching in the street very often does change things. The history of mass demonstrations both here and the US shows that they influence government policy.
Third, if there is such a thing as virtue signalling, then there should, as a matter of balance, be a matching term of vice signalling for those who express destructive attitudes. For example it is more common to hear or read expressions of racism than it is to see actual discrimination.
Finally, the term was created to disempower people who want to support positive change. It serves no other purpose and as such is part of the deliberate debasement of the language by fascist elements.
BB , what would you call it when someone gets on a forum portraying those who enjoy Australia Day as racists for enabling the continued disenfranchising of Indigenous Australians .....
And then spends the day itself celebrating at a BBQ having a good ‘ol time drinking tequila ?
Is that hypocrisy or virtue signalling ? Is there a difference ?
It is hypocrisy if it is as you describe. I am not sure how the other phrase adds anything to that meaning. The difference between the terms is that one has a clear well established meaning and the other is vague, recently created and used mainly as an insult by one side of a political debate. I mean MAGA hats could very easily fit the definition of virtue signalling ........ but see if you can find them described that way!

Nice sunny day yesterday. Bit of swell.
As pretty much usual this time of year.
A few more blow-ins maybe.
Thinking back, at the beach, round town, at the pub (ska band playing), no flags to speak of.
My town is a bit of an oasis, sure, so it's not that surprising. Still, it was noticeable by the absence.
Good barbie later. Lot of legit ledges and grand tales.
And tequila.
Ho hum.
Yes, what do you call it when you catch up with buddies that happen to be in town on a random long weekend? Sunday's one was a ripper too.
And having another BBQ this weekend?
Looking at my social diary (ha ha), there's another random one next Sunday. Probably.
Tequila might be involved. Who knows? Who plans? Who works in a bottle-o?
There may be salad too.
What are buddies, comrades, mates?
What is that 'strawman' thingamajig...again?
Anyway, I think old mate Curly sums it up.
Soitenly. No respect.
Nyuk, nyuk!!!!
This one's for you Blowin
Haha ! Classic....and true.
Did you like the bit where he cruised around town making sure that the blowins were only having Facto sanctioned celebrations ? Literal fun police. Other people having beers on long weekend are bogan racists with their boot on the throat of indigenous pride , but he’s just catching up with mates .
Too funny.
Water warm up your way yet , Andy ? Currents ripping through here but it’s still green and chilly in close.
"Other people having beers on long weekend are bogan racists with their boot on the throat of indigenous pride..."
You said it. Forgot about wildly flailing handbags around, but.
On here. Of course. Always on here.
No need to get too defensive Moe!!!!
Andy, don't do a Shemp!!!!
Surf's pretty junky but the water is a revelation, clear and blue instead of green and thick with cornflake weed.
Speaking of thick, the bluebottles were out in force, got four stings including one little blighter who got overly familiar and went exploring up the inside of the leg of my shorts.
It added a certain je ne sais quoi to the session.
Hey Facto, I'm a big fan of industrial shemp, better than cotton I reckon.
Okay , BB. You’re forever crowing that experts don’t get the respect they deserve , what do you expect when they’re so compromised that they can write an entire article without elucidating the single most affecting factor affecting the situation they’re trying to describe.
https://www.smh.com.au/business/the-economy/hey-pollies-weak-wage-growth...
Apparently wages are stagnant due to technology, not mass immigration.
Please describe how technology is pushing wages down across every industry in Australia.
Absolute garbage. Just think .....Gittens got paid for this drivel. SMH - independent always , just not always factually correct if vested interests dictate.
Hahahaha.
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Good answer , BB.
Got a laugh , dodged the hard issues. Well done.
Blowin if you want to argue with Ross Gittins about economics, email him. What's next? Telling Fanning what's wrong with his bottom turn? The point of the previous post was that it is the only source of knowledge that you respect.
Nah, there's Leith van Onselen these days too. Good shtick he's got going on. Appearing on all the right TV spots.
Like Jacinta Price and her shtick.
Gotta admire the career-minded, get-up-and-go, say-whatever-sells spruikers.
ProMo for PM, 2019!!!! Make Straya grate again!!!!
Did you read the piece before you typed up your embarrassing reply , BB ?
I’ve got nothing but respect for people that value truth over commercial interests. If you think that immigration doesn’t deserve not a single mention in a discussion about stagnant wage growth in a nation with the highest per capita immigration of any developed nation then you’re either not an economist or you’re pandering to a vested interest. Fact.
This discussion isn’t about immigration, it’s about the corrupt misinformation spread by experts.
