Vote Compass is operated by Vox Pop Labs.
The ABC merely host the survey.

So i guess that means im ever so slightly left of LNP both economically and socially.
And who’s at the ‘centre’?
Ok, time to flog that dead horse.
If the Greens are capitalist, if they depend upon and believe in the current system, I really can't accept that they are defined as being that far to the left.
Yes they want to do some pretty serious tinkering such as changes to taxation, superannuation and bringing natural monopolies back under public ownership, but the overall structure of capitalism, free trade and corporate control over the economy remains.
I don't see how that can be called far left.
Either a boofhead has created that Vote Compass site and/or it's designed to keep people sceptical of The Greens.
And no I don't vote Greens.
it's a neoliberal/identity politics mish mash
a bit like the greens...
any real alternatives - or traditional politics - are not, and will not! ...even be considered...
and that's why it's so shit!
so so shit!!

AndyM wrote:gs-co wrote:lol the 2nd one is retarded
Maybe, but how so?
kind of not possible to be libertarian and at the same time left leaning economically...unless they're mangling the definitions quite a bit

Libertarianism simply refers to giving priority to liberty over pretty much anything else.
I see that it's possible to have the Greens valuing personal liberty over authoritarianism while being economically Left.
It's the Americans (who else) who have insisted that libertarianism refers to (right wing) "economic freedom".
Surprise surprise.

Corporations are people too. :/

yep, @AndyM, as previously recommended, Isaiah Berlin.. two types of freedom, two types of thinker: hedgehogs and foxes.. Pluto vs Aristotle.. the best theories are ones that are transparently just clunky attempts to explain plastic human phenomena - theories that purport to be truths a fucking stupid.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Berlin
"Isaiah Berlin distinguished between two main types of liberty: negative and positive freedom. Negative liberty, or "freedom from," refers to the absence of interference with an individual's actions. Positive liberty, or "freedom to," is about the individual's ability to pursue their own goals and desires. Berlin argued that both concepts are important, but they can also be in tension."

Pluto vs Aristotle, gotta love 'em both.
Woof!

both thinkers are important but they can also be in tension.
Woof!

two types of thinkers...
hedgehogs, foxes
optimists, pessimists
rainbow fairies...
and, thomas sowell...
"Those with “unconstrained vision” think that humans are malleable and can be perfected. They believe that social ills and evils can be overcome through collective action that encourages humans to behave better. To subscribers of this view, poverty, crime, inequality, and war are not inevitable. Rather, they are puzzles that can be solved. We need only to say the right things, enact the right policies, and spend enough money, and we will suffer these social ills no more. This worldview is the foundation of the progressive mindset."
By contrast, those who see the world through a “constrained vision” lens believe that human nature is a universal constant. No amount of social engineering can change the sober reality of human self-interest, or the fact that human empathy and social resources are necessarily scarce. People who see things this way believe that most political and social problems will never be “solved”; they can only be managed. This approach is the bedrock of the conservative worldview."

but they match what we're being served up by the media and politicians.
I'm sure it's entirely coincidental but I noticed yesterday Gina Rinehart insisted that Australia needs to spend more on defence, just a couple of days after Dutton said the same thing, what are the odds of that happening?

yeh fliplid, there's the problem perhaps...
example of questions (from memory)
should labor pay more in public subsidies for their exorbitant electricity prices?
well no, it's not fixing anything, it's not addressing the problem, not even close... and frankly, it just distorts the real inflation and cost of living prices and percentages... (which is no doubt why they do it...)
it's a resounding no from me - which makes me a right wing nut job, apparently...
whereas...
should labor increase government ownership of electricity means of production to decrease prices?
would get a resounding yes from me - which would make me a left wing lunatic, not even on their grid pattern scale
should the government immediately recognise palestine as a state?
what a ridiculous question, so fucking flawed I won't even explain...
should wealthy people pay more tax?
well, define wealthy first... gina and twiggy?
well yeh...
my friend on 250k who's worked his arse off to get there, and pays about 45% in tax, therefore pretty much a couple of grand a week?
well no, fuck no actually... it's criminal to charge normal people a couple of grand a week for a system that is failing...
fucking criminal and then some...
dumbest poll ever
sort out ya questions first
then sort out ya left and right...

Not a bad idea.
Why not introduce a proper MRRT or sovereign wealth fund from our mineral resources and use the proceeds for defence and other necessary govt services.
Sure Gina with her billions made selling our ' common' wealth would be happy to start taxing our resources properly instead of giving them away!
Oh wait....

Sad really....
Sky news, Fox news etc just breeding division with their straw man moronic arguments.
Mention free Palestinie being called out at ceremony without evidence, then say not mentioned in msm.
Well,
They don't mention this either.

People are getting sick of WTC, not needed on Anzac Day just like the soldier said.

Black and white fought together, but you should be aware the indigenous were not even recognised as citizens, yet still enlisted and fought for people like you, only to be denied basic rights when they returned home and resumed civilian life.
Given the indigenous served in the ADF it is more than appropriate they be given the opportunity to represent themselves via a WTC. Any reasonable person would agree. And WTC is not being shoved down your throat by Labor and Green stooges. Your comment only serves to confirm political bias.
The jeering and heckling was an unaldulterated display of racism, condoned by people like you and Sky News. A review of the posted comments will confirm that, along with an appalling lack of knowledge of our military history.
Racism rears its ugly head again and I’ll tell you why: Dutton and his reference to The Voice as “Labors Racist Voice”.
The Liberal Party have obstructed every attempt at Indigenous reconciliation and in the process have ramped up racism to new heights.
I’m not black, but there are a lot of times I wish I could say I’m not white.

Labor have shortened to $1.15 while the Coalition have blown out to $6.00
Comes as no surprise.

No political bias here don't like any of them. i didn't condone anything, i said people are getting sick of WTC.

So if you don't like WTC at every event /meeting etc your racist, ok
Strange concept

AndyM wrote:gs-co wrote:lol the 2nd one is retarded
Maybe, but how so?
The ABC scale isn't perfect but i dont think it that far off.
If we are being realistic economically Labor are really on the right of centre and socially should be further left to me they are the only one that are out in the grid slightly.
But the one you posted is just ridiculous, i mean really in what world is LNP further to right than One nation?
And the whole Authoritarian vs Libertarian thing is also just not a good measuring stick, while they might not have started that way Authoritarian & Libertarian can be either left or right.
And both Greens and lets say One nation have aspects of either in their mix both ways or just have big contradictions in what they are under those meanings.
For example during Covid Greens were the ones calling for more government control over the people, lockdown's, restriction's on travel, vaccine mandates etc they were far from libertarian, while One nation were the totally opposite and wanting freedom from government control.
But then you can look at other areas or issues and make the argument the opposite way.
Yeah so just a bad measuring stick to start with, nothings perfect but the ABC one in how it's set out is a better measuring stick, left-right Social line, Economic line, Conservative and progressive direction.
But all this stuff is just so over the place these days, take an issue like antisemitism its traditionally been viewed as a thing of the far right, but today it's also(or even more so) more common on the far left, this is the horseshoe theory in action.
Both far left far right are nutters.

"Plastic narcissist."
my initial thoughts exactly
but, her generation / demographic are all a bit that way...
she speaks a lot of sense on a lot of issues
and, heard a lot of indig. people referring to this 'purple circle' thing now...
good on em
much like wider politics... call out the useless cunts that enrich themselves, and then shut down everyone else...
can only be a good thing

Culturally speaking , the X indigenous woman wasn’t from that country anyway, so she can’t really speak for all other First Nations traditions around Australia.

Classic surf photog trick. I think maddie king may actually be a left. she just looks like a right in that footage because it's been mirror flipped. I watched it flipped back so her jumper read 'australia' not 'ailartsua' and she came across as a liberal progressive.
Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.
This is how Dutton wins:
