Heres two from 2024 going with a bit of an Aussie theme, one old band with a new song and one newer band, both top notch songs

The Fauves new one

Thanks Indo. Fauves, a long lost favourite and now found again. Bones and Jones have got a couple of new catchy ones. If you haven't heard of them, it's worth checking them out on Spotify. Local Surf Coast / Ocean Grove lads.

Yeah i only really like the Fauves 90s stuff, but this song sounds like a bit of return to form

Not sure on the drum machine, but will check them out on spotify and throw a song in a new music mix

This one isnt as new 2015 i think i was searching for Celibate Rifles and Rifles came up and made me curious.

Normally not a big fan of UK bands, but IMHO this is a ripper of a song has a Smiths or Jam vibe too it.

Decent song lyrically too.

Jimmy was a local boy but he's seen much more than the change in the weather
Sitting in a uniform of a three-piece suit and the ribbons from his past
Looking through a little boy at the bar with the mouth who thinks his clever now
Dreaming of a day that he goes home from a war to his childhood sweetheart

Now he don't need anyone, there's no one there for him
Just a feeling of an empty place deteriorating
Jimmy was a local boy, but he's seen much more than I'm bound to ever
A member of a dying breed that sat and wait as it all just falls apart
Dreaming of a day that's oh so long ago, that he can't remember right
There was a time a man can still be a man and be proud to use his heart

Now he don't need anyone, there's no one there for him
There was really only one
Now he misses how she sounds, he frowns, line 'em up and he puts them down
It's sad this town seems to fail to appreciate the man

Now he don't need anyone, there's no one there for him
No he don't feel any more 'cause jimmy's so thick-skinned
And a long long time ago, when he could break her heart
There was really only one
Now he misses how she sounds, he frowns, line em up and he puts em down
Its sad this town seems to fail to appreciate what he's about
Line 'em up and he puts them down
It's sad this town seems to fail to appreciate the man

I liked it too, soul wailing isn't my thing, but I didn't mind the pinch of rag and bone, he's 90% of the paul simon / janice ian tradition, and doesn't come across as phoney.

That Rifles song is good, too. If Smith Street Band could calm the fuck down and get a bit of Jam or industrial midlands up them, they'd be doing similar but better, and would become one of my favourite bands.

here you go, @indo, these Canberrans will remind you of carefree 90s summer mornings

^ FDC definite for this thread @seeds. Just like rule 1 of guitar is no D(sus4), rule 1 for vox is never start a lyric with 'I' unless you wanna sound like a tool bag. Or you are very very very very very cool:.

There is so much music where the guitars, drums bass kick in and im like yeah this sound's alright, then the vocals start and it's all ruined for me.

Im so fussy when it comes to vocals.

Albo announces Hottest Aussie of the Year

Don't ask...Guessing if yer forced to pick a song in the Hottest 100
Yes...tbb did listen thru the Top 20 & all Band selections beyond to 100...Why?
Tried awfully hard to like any track...never gonna get that time back...feel icky!
Just thankful none of tbb's kidz are in them bands...saves having to buy any of that shit.

#48 Has some spark of life

#14 has some cred as a half decent New Wave Rave

Just enquiring...anyone got a fav track in Hottest 100...
Don't wanna give up on it...happy for crew to cue one...tbb will give it a spin!
Amyl's bogan Porn Hub Auditions come across as a bit too Posh in this muck.
https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/countdown/hottest100

ABC thoughtfully loaded Top Ten Trax...but tbb can only advise to keep clear of it...

Thanks for sharing personal insight seeds + basesix...
Only just realized after backtracking we all cued the same Fontaines D.C.
Super Sensual Irish Beat Punkz...it is awkward to listen to...but that's their appeal...
They're prepared to try new layers & compositions & that earns buckets of cred.
Has them weird sensorama bangs & clangs built in...Ok with it...
Easy for us Hodads to get hooked as it seems as if these dudes either know or care about shit...
Band is Touring Oz in March...

Can't help but think they're making waves in Old School of Rock...Agree!
They'd be stoked that a Downunder Hodad Surf crew new music blog is talking 'bout them...
So full credit to indo for starting up new music thread...seems to work just fine...
Got us talking 'bout new band on eve of their tour...guess that's the point...
Can see that severely isolated tbb is trying to fit in here...doin' ok seems to flow easy.
Good luck to the lads...if they give a shit then we'll lend an ear!

Decent video of top ten post 2010 Punk Aussie Bands.

Few bands there that i dont mind or at least a few of their songs, Amyl and The Sniffers, The Chats, Stiff Richards, Drunk Mums.

Drunk Mums are probably my fav of the bunch, i dig those guys.

Theres a few not on that list that IMHO should be like Civic & Spit System.
