I'm getting a new car in December- was gonna get a new Outback as Japan will stop making them and I like Subaru's. The Japan one's are 1.8lt T but because they won't come to the negotiating table in good faith I'm changing brands and going diesel. Meeting with our bloke tomorrow- 2.0T 48v mild-hybrid. 1200km + to a tank. No brainer.

Next car will probs be an EV.

N box all the way..with a Spoon makeover!

Base, what a pleasure looking at those flickr pics- so many classic cars.

Our first family car that I can remember was an early 60's Chrysler Valiant similar to the one pictured. A roaming cow in FNQ put an end to that one sadly but my parents enjoyed telling the story years after.

yeh, sounds the fun, huh? my belmont's a '71, and im doing up a 1970s 10' caravan to drag about behind it. brrrrrrrrrmmmm... I plant trees, help animals, and have convinced many people around here to get limestone slabs, rather that concrete slabs, feel like my green cred's ok.. life's for now, I'll save getting an ev if I get another go-round, I reckon.

Ah Roady, Japan's second most popular car but no thanks.

Not saying it's a bad car, just doesn't suit my needs. I need something wagon and something competent in the snow.

^^ G’day @burleigh, big Clive dropping, what was it, $60-80 million at each of the last two elections on the anti Labor vote doesn’t do it for you?

Don’t think your wish could ever get up here thou, something about compulsory voting which forces politics here to be played in the middle much to the chagrin of the right. Now in the US where a 1/3 of voters don’t turn up it means politics is played not in the centre but out on the fringes or as is now the case the lunatic fringes.

Thank god we have compulsory voting and non partisan electoral oversight by the AEC I say …..

About as much as maga don’t get. The west has spent post Covid battling to keep inflation under wraps and get it back down? How is this not going to raise inflation? Don’t follow too much but can anyone explain Trumps logic to me? Will it enrich him and others more? American industrial revitalization.? None the less everything will be more expensive then as well. They going to pay a decent wage to do it locally. Won’t that increase inflation?

This is scary.

And its far worse for Australia we dont have Mexico or Canada next door

We(the west) need to diversify we are far too reliant on China, who really is not out friend (government not people) not necessarily an enemy but we shouldn't be so reliant on them.

Why isn't India a bigger player in exports???, big population cheap labour.

And there is some things that should be made in the west, the things we need when shit hits the fan, like it did during covid (and around security related ) We should learn from Covid, it should be a fork in the road moment.

We cant keep going as things are, we need a change of direction.

But we also need to accept that we will need to pay more for some things and not have all this throw away cheap made in china shit.

Maybe tariffs aren't the complete answer, but its a start a change of direction, instead of kicking the can down the road.

All that said while China has us over a barrel, maybe them being so reliant on the Western world for their export economy has them over a barrel in regard to South China Sea or Taiwan etc

But maybe we need to be smart and if shit hits the fan, we can still get the things we really need from other countries things like white goods or clothing.

It's complex, but there does need to be a change of direction and i think Trump does have that mindset of change.
