I wonder if the general public (if there is such a thing) cares.
As widely reported, Peter Dutton has/had? an extensive property portfolio.
I remember he had a fancy beachside investment place at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.

I’m not sure that Albo and his wife achieving the aussie dream will hurt him at election time. Others things might, but not that so much I reckon.
Of course, a lot of federal pollies are hopelessly compromised when considering policies to reduce house prices.
This list shows Dutton as only owning one home, which is kind of a little sad if true.
But who knows they could have houses under partner's and kids names too.

Yeah i read a few articles last night on Duttons real-estate history as you can see above he has a history of buying and selling quite quickly but they are almost all his own residence (better tax wise) i think the exception was the recent units.
So he is more a flipper than an acquirer of a big property portfolio.

The thing about it is, Albanese and his government with their turbo charged mass immigration policies have exacerbated the housing shortage and housing affordability crisis far more than anyone else in Australian history. They have done it deliberately. Whilst he himself is unaffected…. That’s what bothers people.

I’ve watched and read several LVO’s and Matt Barrie’s presentations. They provide an outlook on the current problems which are delivered with a smug arrogance, and an underlying tone of “it’s all the fault of the ALP”, when all available data reveals the origins of the problems lie with policies enacted by Howard and Costello. Policies which basically changed housing from a purchase to a tax deducible investment, and importing people to bump up GDP.
But that opinion comes as no surprise when the AIP is populated by a bunch of senior Liberal Party hacks and Barrie whose only claim to fame was being voted “Libertarian of The Year”. Van Onselen, in a recent interview with Monarchist David Flint, made no attempt to hide his disdain for the left. So we know where they’re both coming from.
The LNP for many years, have made no secret of their desire to cut real wages and did so ruthlessly. More recently, their tax cuts outrageously favoured high income earners while low income earners received little. By comparison, the ALP have fought for and achieved real pay increases for sections of the workforce and implemented revised tax cuts to provide a better outcome for low and middle income earners.
Covid and all its restrictions drove up costs across the economy. Shipping costs rose dramatically and a shortage of labour forced up food prices, and the usual run of extreme weather and reduced crop yields forcing up prices. The LNP reaction was to support businesses by throwing billions of dollars at them, very little of which made its way to the workers. Yet the LNP continually maintain the increases were caused by ALP policy.
Nine years of LNP government saw ever increasing budget defecits to record level. The two recent ALP budgets have seen large surpluses: inflation has also been halved since they assumed office. This should dispel the myth the LNP are superior economic managers.
They suggest a solution is to construct more multi storey, three and four bedroom apartment blocks. Developers are notorious for liquidating the building company to avoid any liability for structural defects, as displayed recently in Sydney. For that alone, no rational person would invest in such a property.
Governments need to further encourage business investment in regional areas, where land is much cheaper, and potential home owners need to realise your first home doesn’t need to be a 35 square cave.

When The Australian quotes Labor MP’s on the basis on anonymity, my bullshit meter is triggered.
And now Van Onselen is pursuing the road upgrade angle to denigrate Albo.
The fact is the upgrade is long overdue and planning was initiated well before Albo’s new house was listed for sale. Sadly, for all their “foresight and planning”, the LNP just never got around to funding the upgrade.
The road has been a bottleneck for years and the upgrade will cater for future population growth.
I’m sure the other 25999 road users who travel that section every single day will appreciate the improvements.
But really, there is no end to the bullshit Van Onselen and his ilk are prepared to peddle.

We're running 'burnout economics' where monetary and fiscal are at odds: big infrastructure projects and big immigration increase demand (inflationary pressure) while rising rates are trying to stifle it - a bit like foot flat on both accelerator and brake as you do a burnout. As you can see here, it's not working. Go through the top 25 economies or so, compare inflation rate to interest rate:

Your post above, agree with a lot of it, LNP aren't the answer either, for as you described, they set much of the policy that has led to the situation today. Something else will be required.

Inflation here peaked at 7.8% in 2022, it's now at 3.6% for the June quarter and the September figure due out shortly will likely come in around 2.8% according to Trading Economics.
The measures implemented by the RBA impact younger home owners disproportionately and they don't seem to care if some lose their house. I would suggest a fairer mechanism would be to temporarily increase the GST but then it becomes political and we know where that will go.
I would expect a 12 to 18 month lag in immigration numbers once policy is implemented.
Shorten had a tax reform package: the LNP had a field day with negative gearing as well as franking credits, where the outrage was just as loud, and were going to make sure neither saw the light of day.
You can sell a plan as well as you like but if the vested interests are offended you will have a hard time getting it through. Never expect the LNP to have the interests of all Australians at heart.

Our inflationary cycle is behind those of the countries you mentioned. But if the September figure comes in at 2.8% as predicted by TE, then there is a reasonable case for a 25 basis point cut.
Unfortunately the government has to tread that fine line between doing what they know is correct and not upsetting the population in general or giving the opposition ammunition.

After nutting out our problems in Parliament our elected representatives, government and opposition, all go off for a beer and a laugh then come back occasionally, look at what’s wrong and do it all again.
Unfortunately, it has devolved into a “confrontational” system, where the opposition representatives have no interest in constructive legislation but do their utmost to frustrate the government and where vested interests force compromise upon the system, after exchanging gifts, and on occasion giving employment, to those who arranged the compromise.
It was the Mad Monk, Abbott, on direction from his Mistress, P Credlin, who proudly proclaimed it is the job of oppositions to oppose. A simplistic model, but one that has ensured government has become increasingly difficult and at times dysfunctional, with the serfs ultimately being the losers. And then we have the Greens, but that’s another story.
We deserve a system where the serfs overall well-being is prioritized ahead of the ideological egos of some of our elected representatives. That may be a long time coming.
