Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.

This is how Dutton wins:

I wonder if the general public (if there is such a thing) cares.

As widely reported, Peter Dutton has/had? an extensive property portfolio.
I remember he had a fancy beachside investment place at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.

“ Federal Defence Minister Peter Dutton sold his holding at no 109 for $6 million, pocketing a tidy profit on the $2.325 million he paid in 2014.”

I’m not sure that Albo and his wife achieving the aussie dream will hurt him at election time. Others things might, but not that so much I reckon.

Of course, a lot of federal pollies are hopelessly compromised when considering policies to reduce house prices.

This list shows Dutton as only owning one home, which is kind of depressing if true.

Well, I personally don't begrudge him his recent purchase, but given the current housing crisis I can see how it might ruffle a few feathers.
It's bad optics whatever way you slice it.
I wouldn't fret about it though; it'll blow over shortly.

Agreed TS.
Doesn't bother me because his personal life is none of my business.
Same as anyones.

Yeah i read a few articles last night on Duttons real-estate history as you can see above he has a history of buying and selling quite quickly but they are almost all his own residence (better tax wise) i think the exception was the recent units.

So he is more a flipper than an acquirer of a big property portfolio.

I personally don't care either...

it's more a symptom of the gross inequality that our political class has allowed to develope within supposedly 'egalitarian' Australia rather than anything albo has personally done

politically however, is a different matter...

it just shows him, and his party, to be the aloof wankers they are

he should have taken one for the team

his advisors should have told him to take one for the team...

'the team' are struggling to hide their disdain for his little indulgence

I'm not so sure it will blow over

he was already so so on the nose I think this is his death blow

the greens are busy making hay to make it his death blow...

the greens - and an inept labor party - are almost ensuring we end up with a dutton government

personally, I think that would be a disaster... but I'm willing to take bets on it's probability...

The thing about it is, Albanese and his government with their turbo charged mass immigration policies have exacerbated the housing shortage and housing affordability crisis far more than anyone else in Australian history. They have done it deliberately. Whilst he himself is unaffected…. That’s what bothers people.

I do get that perspective and don't begrudge it.
I still think personal life should be just that.
If you're living within the law, live and let live.
Slippery slope to start comparing some ones private life to their professional life.

If ya don't know vote Joh 4 PM.

LNP cowardly jumped ship to silence the voice
More than happy to jail any practicing pro choice
We'll licence more bars that ban guitars
And rocket welcome to country to Mars

Private Schools can bully and sack funny business student teachers
We'll be resurrecting knight-hooded pardoned hands on preachers
We promise to be as clean as can be with no corruption to see
Everybody knows the Media forewarned the Police to vote for me

Why should I declare my host of failed bankrupted company interests
It makes smarter business sense to versify and plead indifference
It matter's not that no Party will ever elect me as their leader
Coz people swore it's now the Law to Just Vote for any News Reader

News: Bombay train wreck disaster is a never ending fail
Main Roads will sail more cars off their union busted rail
Our next mountain chain of rubbish will be so divine
Our plan is to block out the sun with Clive's blue sky mine.

Seachange developers can do as they please
By selling off seas rising up to your knees
We promise to remove any barrier blocking the sale of the Reef
By palming it off to some altruistic ministerial whitehoven thief

We'll happily sell off Brisbane to the IOC Chinese
Then drip feed and bleed foreign AFL disease
By sacking Nurses and extracting trees
We'll ward off any private health sneeze!

We'll put an end to satisfying woke dignified dying
For something more terrifying or horrifically mortifying
Even the blind can see our teenie weenie Mussolini meanie.
Is voted less trustworthy than his not so Great Houdini martini.

Cheap housing = more Australian babies.

Overall policy settings by both major parties are indirectly leading in the opposite direction.

Hello VJ

A great observation , cheap housing = more babies !!!

Australia desperately needs more babies and Pop won't help , with this problem .

Elon Musk was just talking about Australia's poor Birth Rate , miles below the 2 mark .

We are a Young Country that's just finding our Feet .

Oldies like me won't Make Australia Great !

China and Japan's longterm future is at risk , as they are getting old like Pop .

Immigration helps but we have NO homes for them .

We have 2 think of ways to keep our population Young !

Cheap Housing near schools , is a Great start .
