In Between Sets

As a huge, long-period swell overran exposed West Australian coastlines on the weekend, Queensland surfer, Brent Dorrington, paddled out at one of WA's premier waves. He picked off and threaded the in-betweeners while wearing the odd closeout set on the head.

Luke Gerson sat high on the hill and caught one of Dorrington's succesful rides.

A Large Slice of the West

The weekend just passed was a big one in WA. On Saturday a large, long-period swell made landfall under light east-south east winds. Overnight the swell jumped further and Sunday morning dawned with conditions as good as they get.

Swellnet's Margaret River reporter, Calvin Best, zipped around the south-west region shooting a few different breaks.

West Oz Afternoon Delight

Yesterday we ran photos of the huge swell that hit WA two weeks ago. In the accompanying text I mentioned how the swell dropped dramatically through the afternoon, the implication being that, due to it's short-lived nature, it was a disappointing swell. Well, these shots are from that afternoon. As you can see there was no need for disappointment. All photos by Russell Ord.

West Oz Morning Glory

Two weeks ago West Oz was hit by the biggest swell of the autumn season. Yet as far as great swells go this one was a very short lived affair - by the afternoon it had dropped to just 4-5 feet. It may not even stack up as a one-day wonder but it doesn't detract from an epic WA morning.
