Recap
Generally average conditions yesterday with a weak swell in the morning, building through the afternoon but choppy with strong onshore winds.
This morning we've got a peak in swell from the low that's been sitting south-west of us and cross-offshore winds are favouring protected spots across the metro regions, large and choppy to the south.
This week and weekend (Oct 12 - 15)
The low linked to the current swell and winds is now moving off to the east, through the Bight and with this we'll see conditions improve across the South West as the swell eases in size.
Fading 4-5ft+ waves are due in the South West tomorrow, 2ft in Mandurah and 1-2ft across Perth as winds shift fresh E/SE across most locations through the morning ahead of strong sea breezes.
Into Friday our new pulse of W/SW groundswell is due to fill in, generated by an off-axis fetch of gale to severe-gale N/NW winds at the head of a broad, polar low.
The swell will be inconsistent but should boost the South West back to 4-6ft with smaller 1-2ft sets to the north.
Into the weekend a larger pulse of SW groundswell from a better aligned fetch of W/SW winds is due to fill in. While initially not overly significant in strength we're now seeing a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds generated on the polar shelf, around the Heard Island region.
This will produce the size with the groundswell expected to arrive through Saturday and pulse to 6-8ft on the magnets through the afternoon, 2ft+ in Mandurah and 2ft across Perth later.
Winds will be stronger Saturday and shift back to the SE through the morning, while Sunday should see better E/SE winds in the morning as the swell starts easing.
Monday looks fun as well with smaller, easing surf under fresh E/NE winds, tending N'ly through the day.
Longer term nothing too significant is due through next week and winds will blow mostly from the south. Therefore make the most of the coming cleaner days of fun surf.
