Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 6th November)

Best Days: Tomorrow morning, desperate surfers Mandurah early Sunday, Wednesday morning for the keen

Recap

Clean, windy and fun waves easing from 5-6ft across the South West yesterday, 2ft+ in Mandurah and 1-2ft across Perth.

This morning is windier and smaller leaving limited options for a good wave.

This weekend and next week (Nov 7 - 13)

We'll see some new swell start to build across the state on the weekend and winds should ease in strength, being fresh E/NE across the South West and moderate further north, tending variable late morning ahead of afternoon sea breezes.

Our new inconsistent SW groundswell is on track with a building trend due through the day, reaching 4-6ft into the late afternoon across the South West, easing from a similar size Sunday morning.

Perth and Mandurah aren't expected to offer much size with infrequent sets to 1-2ft due late across Mandurah and also Sunday morning, tiny in Perth.

Winds on Sunday are dicey and likely to be light onshore across the South West, increasing through the day as a mid-latitude front come low starts edging in from the west.

Perth and Mandurah look to offer S/SE-S winds early but with the small to tiny swell.

From next week and into next week we'll unfortunately see a run of onshore winds and moderate to large W/SW swells from a flurry of frontal systems being projected up and through the Indian Ocean.

This will be linked to a pronounced, broad but not overly strong node of the Long Wave Trough moving in from the west, and all in all there's no major strength linked to the incoming storms.

The first mid-latitude system will develop directly off our doorstep on Monday, with a fetch of strong W/SW-S/SW winds due to be projected towards and then across us into the evening.

This will bring strong W/NW tending W/SW winds on Monday, swinging S/SW on Tuesday and a building W/SW tending S/SW swell to no major size.

Perth and Mandurah look to come in around a weak 2-3ft Tuesday with average 5-6ft+ waves across the South West, easing Wednesday as winds swing offshore temporarily in between mid-latitude systems.

There isn't expected to be any major size though with easing sets from 1-2ft across Perth and Mandurah, possibly 3-5ft in the South West.

The next storm will be a stronger mid-latitude low forming north-east of the Heard Island region, with a fetch of pre-frontal W/NW gales followed by post-frontal W/SW gales, producing a moderate to large W/SW groundswell for Friday afternoon and more so Saturday.

A secondary front firing up on the back of the low looks to project a secondary fetch of strong W/SW winds towards us later week, producing a larger additional W/SW swell, but with all this activity winds will be onshore and out of the west.

We'll confirm all this on Monday but all in all it looks like an average run of swell until the following week. Have a great weekend!
