Best Days: Swell magnets in the South West tomorrow, Tuesday next week

Recap

Nice and clean but with minimal surf on offer across the South West yesterday, tiny to flat to the north.

Today our new S/SW groundswell has come in with good and clean 3-4ft sets in the South West, the best day so far this week with tiny surf continuing to the north.

This week and weekend (Mar 26 - 29)

Today's kick in SW swell is expected to ease through tomorrow with small 3ft sets across the South West swell magnets, tiny to flat to the north. Conditions will be great for these magnets with a light E/NE offshore, shifting NW but likely going variable.

Moving into Friday some new distant swell is expected to build through the day, with a better S/SW pulse on Saturday/Sunday also mixed in with some short-range swell.

The S/SW swell will be generated by a slightly better but still weak polar front projecting towards us, with the short-range swell from a weak mid-latitude low moving in from the west.

Winds look to be N/NE at dawn, swinging NW soon after creating bumpy conditions, fresher W/NW into the afternoon.

Onshore SW winds are then due Saturday with the mix of swells kicking to 4-5ft or so in the South West, 2ft in Mandurah and 1ft to possibly 2ft in Perth.

Come Sunday winds unfortunately look to linger out of the SW across the South West, cleaner to the north but with the swell from Saturday on the decline.

Of greater importance is the development of a significant polar low east of Heard Island this week, with a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW-SW winds due to fire up through our southern swell window.

A large, long-period S/SW groundswell is due off this low, arriving Monday and peaking into the late afternoon/evening with what looks to be at least 8ft+ or so at this stage. Winds are still up in the air, but Tuesday looks cleanest as it eases. More on this Friday though.
