A poor week, and then more action into next week
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 2nd March)
Best Days: No great days until next week, desperate surfers Thursday and Friday mornings in the South West
Recap
Deteriorating surf all weekend, OK across the south swell magnets in the South West early Saturday but then poor thereafter and tiny to the north.
This week and weekend (Mar 3 - 8)
There's been no real change to the forecast since last week, with a poor week of waves on the cards until next week.
Tomorrow will remain tiny, with offshore winds in the morning, similar Wednesday morning ahead of our very inconsistent and small SW groundswell. The source of this swell was a distant frontal progression south of South Africa last week, and we'll be lucky to see 3ft to possibly 4ft sets late Wednesday and Thursday morning. Expect long waits between sets and set your expectations very low.
Also in the mix should be a tiny W/SW swell across Perth and Mandurah from a weak mid-latitude low late last week in the southern Indian Ocean, coming in at 1ft or so later tomorrow and more so Wednesday.
Winds on Wednesday afternoon as the distant SW swell builds will be onshore and out of the S/SW, light to moderate and from the S/SE-SE on Thursday morning - not ideal.
Come Friday the surf is due to become small to tiny with winds a little undecided at the moment.
The weekend isn't looking any better with a low point in swell but with more favourable E/NE offshore winds through the mornings.
Longer term there's finally some swell on the horizon, with a couple of strong lows forecast to form firstly in the Southern Ocean and then the southern Indian Ocean later this week and into the weekend.
The first system isn't overly impressive, with a quick burst of W/SW gales likely to generate a moderate sized SW groundswell for Monday, while the secondary low is more north in latitude and longer lived, generating a slightly better W/SW groundswell for Thursday. Size wise we're not looking at much over that 6ft range at this stage, but more on this in the coming updates.
