This week and next week (Jan 10 – 18)
The end of the week and weekend are looking fairly poor with the swell easing further through tomorrow leaving nothing of note or size across the state.
An early S/SE breeze may be seen tomorrow morning, swinging onshore mid-late morning.
A low point in swell is due Friday morning with similar early S/SE winds, while into the afternoon a small inconsistent background swell is due to fill in.
We're not expected to see anything really over 3ft, easing from a similar size Saturday mixed in with another long-period but small and very inconsistent background swell.
Winds will be much much better Saturday morning and out of the E-E/NE ahead of a SW change mid-late morning.
Our funky and rapidly broadening and strengthening frontal system firing up north-east of Heard Island is still on track, with a slight upgrade in the core wind speeds.
A burst of gale-force SW winds will be generated through our south-western swell window, with core wind speeds reaching severe-gale, generating a good pulse of SW groundswell for Sunday afternoon, while a secondary burst of strong to near gale-force W/SW winds on the tail of the initial front will generate a reinforcing W/SW swell for Monday afternoon, easing Tuesday.
Size wise, the first pulse is looking biggest now with sets due to reach an easy 6ft into the afternoon, easing slowly from 5-6ft on Monday, down from 4-6ft Tuesday morning.
Mandurah should see good 2-3ft sets later Sunday, holding 2-3ft on Monday and 2ft in Perth with both easing from the 2ft range Tuesday.
Winds Sunday don't look ideal with a morning S/SE breeze, tending strong SW into the afternoon, with Monday seeing gusty S'ly winds in the South West, better out of the S/SE further north. Tuesday is looking best with SE offshores kicking in everywhere as the swell eases.
For the rest of the week there's nothing significant on the cards so try and plan some surf time early next week.
