Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 4th January)

Best Days: Saturday and Sunday mornings swell magnets across the South West, Monday and Tuesday mornings across the South West, swell magnets Wednesday morning

Recap

Onshore and small to tiny surf across all locations yesterday morning, though a strong spike in new SW swell was seen through the day, reaching an easy 8ft across the South West though with poor winds, best in protected spots.

The swell has dropped like a hot cake this morning, solid early but back to 4-5ft by mid-morning and weak and onshore, the Cape Naturaliste buoy shows this trend well.

Perth and Mandurah were much better with clean 2-3ft and 2ft+ surf respectively this morning.

This weekend and next week (Jan 5 - 11)

The swell will continue to ease into tomorrow and at the current rate there won't be much left across the South West tomorrow morning.

Conditions look cleaner with an E/SE offshore but the size will be limited to 3ft+, tiny to the north.

A new mid-period SW swell should start building into the afternoon and peak Sunday but the front generating this swell has been downgraded a little.

It looks like we'll only see sets to 4ft across the South West magnets, and quite weak in nature, with 1-1.5ft waves in Mandurah, tiny across Perth.

An offshore E/SE breeze should again be seen ahead of sea breezes.

A better increase in mid-long period S/SW groundswell is due on Monday though the low generating this only reaches a significant strength once east of our swell windows.

This will limit the size and see the swell come in at a more southerly angle, reaching 4-5ft+ across the South West Monday morning, tiny in Mandurah and Perth.

A fresh SE tending stronger S/SE breeze will limit surfing options slightly around Margs, especially with then southerly direction, similar as the swell eases Tuesday.

Wednesday will offer a better E/SE offshore but size wise, there'll lucky to be much over 3ft across the South West.

Longer term there are hints of a possible larger low forming more favourably in our swell window later next week, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
