This week and weekend (Dec 27 – 30)
We've got a poor end to the week with the swell expected to bottom out tomorrow along with onshore W/SW winds across the South West, possibly S/SE early to the north but with no size.
Friday will remain onshore and poor with fresh SW tending S/SW winds as a mid-latitude front clips the south of the state.
This front has been upgraded a little since Monday and we'll see a good fetch of strong to near gale-force W/SW-SW winds projected up towards and then under the south of the state through tomorrow and early Friday.
A moderate sized mid-period SW swell should be generated, building later Friday and peaking Saturday morning to 5-6ft across the South West, 2ft in Mandurah and 1-2ft in Perth.
Winds are still looking favourable with a light offshore SE'ly due to develop through the morning across all locations (S/SE at dawn), while Sunday is also looking similar but with a new reinforcing SW swell.
The swell will be generated by a late forming front south-west of us on Friday, producing a little less size to 4-5ft across the South West, 1-2ft in Mandurah and tiny in Perth.
Monday is looking a little average with a drop in swell and less favourable S/SE morning winds, but on Tuesday a stronger SW groundswell is due to fill in.
A strengthening polar front will project a good fetch of W/SW gales through our south-western swell window, producing a good SW groundswell that's due to build Tuesday and reach 6ft+ later in the day across the South West 2ft in Mandurah and 1-2ft in Perth.
Conditions will be choppy into the afternoon but come Wednesday as the swell slowly eases we're looking at much better E/SE offshore winds. We'll have a closer look at this Friday though.
