Fun weekend, smaller next week
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 16th June)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday morning, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday next weekend
Recap
Good conditions across all locations yesterday morning as Wednesday's large swells eased back from the 8ft range on the sets in the South West, 2-3ft around Mandurah and 2ft Perth.
Today the swell was smaller again but nice and clean with fun waves on all coasts.
This weekend and next week (June 17 – 23)
We've got some fun surf due over the weekend with a new SW groundswell filling in tomorrow with favourable winds most of the day.
This swell was generated by a broad fetch of pre-frontal W/NW gales moving through the south-east Indian Ocean and should build to 6ft+ across the South West into the afternoon with 2ft waves around Perth and Mandurah.
The swell is then expected to ease back through Sunday from 5-6ft and 2ft on the sets respectively Sunday, smaller into Monday.
Conditions are looking excellent tomorrow with a light morning offshore E'ly breeze, variable into the afternoon and then light E/NE tending N/NE winds Sunday morning NW into the afternoon with an approaching front.
Unfortunately lingering onshore W/NW winds are due across the South West Monday morning, swinging S'ly late in the day. Perth should be clean during the morning but tiny.
The next increase in swell is due Wednesday but to no major size, with a weak polar front projecting towards us over the weekend Monday only due to generate a small to moderate mid-period SW swell. We may see some weaker S/SW swell building Tuesday afternoon with E'ly offshores, while Wednesday looks best as E'ly winds persist with 4-5ft sets across the South West (only 1-1.5ft further north).
Longer term a stronger polar frontal progression firing up south of us is likely to generate moderate to large levels of S/SW groundswell Friday and Saturday for the South West along with offshore winds, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend.
