Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 14th June)

Best Days: Most days until early next week

Recap

OK conditions yesterday morning across most coasts with some fun SW swell ahead of a larger kick in long-period but inconsistent swell later in the day. Winds were poor across the South West later in the day, while Perth and Mandurah remained favourable late.

No major size was seen before dark with the initial stages of the swell not performing, and this morning we've got larger waves on the coast, but it's under the forecast expectations around Margs.

The strength and expanse of the storm was downgraded over the weekend, and the secondary fetch moving over the active sea state looks to have been just a touch delayed resulting in two separate SW and W/SW swells events, not one large oversized event.

In any case wave heights should remain large into this afternoon across the state as the W/SW swell continues to fill in and winds will tend more S/SE.

This week and weekend (June 15 – 18)

While the peak of the swell was a bit under expectations, we should still see large surf tomorrow morning, easing off through the day and further Friday. Margs should offer easing 8-10ft sets, with 2-3ft waves further north and a light S/SE breeze will favour slightly protected locations.

A straighter offshore E/NE breeze is expected Friday morning with weak afternoon sea breezes.

Into the weekend our fresh pulse of SW groundswell is still on track, with back to back pre-frontal W/NW gales generating a good pulse of size through the day.

We should see Margs building back to the 6ft+ range Saturday afternoon with 2ft waves around Perth, easing back slowly into Sunday.

E/NE tending NE winds will favour selected breaks that handle the northerly wind both Saturday and Sunday early variable winds Monday ahead of a shallow change.

Longer term there's nothing too significant on the cards so make the most of the coming days surf.
