Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th February)

Best Days: Margs Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, again Friday morning

Recap

A little kick in swell and OK winds across the South West yesterday morning for a surf, while today the swell was small and bumpy with stronger offshore winds. Torrential rain also fell across Perth and Mandurah as the remnants of the tropical low moved south towards us.

This weekend and next week (Feb 11 - 17)

Our weekend of strong offshores and new swell is still lining up.

The ex-tropical low will continue drifting south, squeezing a strong high to our south-west, resulting in strong SE tending E/SE winds through tomorrow. This will fight against a new inconsistent SW groundswell that should build to 4-5ft through the afternoon across the South West.

A peak is expected overnight, with easing 4-5ft sets Sunday morning under a weaker and better fresh E'ly breeze. Perth isn't due to see much size at all, maybe 1-1.5ft later Saturday and Sunday morning.

Much lighter E/NE breezes are expected through Monday morning but the swell will be small and fading from 3ft+ or so.

Tuesday and Wednesday aren't looking too flash with smaller surf and variable winds on the former, tiny Wednesday with SE-S/SE winds.

Our new S/SW groundswell for Thursday, mentioned last update.

This will be generated by a persistent but not overly strong polar low moving through our swell window, from the Heard Island region, up towards the south of the country.

A moderate sized S/SW groundswell should be generated, building through Thursday and reaching 4-5ft across the South West and 1ft in Perth.

A stronger swell is due into Friday afternoon from a stronger polar front on the tail of the initial low, aiming a better fetch of severe-gale S/SW winds through our southern swell window.

The swell is due to arrive through Friday, building to a good 6ft+ into the afternoon, easing back from 5-6ft Saturday morning.

Winds for Thursday look a little dicey with a S/SE'ly through the morning, SE into Friday. More on this Monday though, have a great weekend!
