Average week, best Thursday and Friday across south swell magnets
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 23rd November)
Best Days: Thursday and Friday mornings south swell magnets in the South West, Monday morning, Tuesday morning
Recap
Slow and average start to the weekend ahead of a strong kick in new SW groundswell later Saturday.
Sunday morning offered the best waves with clean and good 4-6ft sets across the South West, while Perth failed to pick up any decent size.
A drop in size has been seen into this morning from 3-5ft in the South West but under less than favourable N/NE winds.
This week (Nov 24 - 27)
Unfortunately there's nothing too much on the cards for this week.
The weekend's and this morning's swell will continue to fade through tomorrow from 3ft to occasionally 4ft across swell magnets but with less than favourable and strong S/SE winds.
Wednesday will become small to tiny as S/SE winds persist.
Into Thursday a very acute S'ly groundswell is due to fill in across breaks exposed to the south around Margs, peaking into the afternoon.
The source of this swell will be a polar front forming to our south-southwest this afternoon and evening, projecting north-northeast towards South Australia while generating a fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds on the edge of our swell window.
Exposed spots to the south should build to 4-5ft through the middle of the day/afternoon with fresh E/SE tending S/SE winds. The swell will ease quickly Friday under similar breezes.
Due to the southerly direction Perth won't see any size with tiny 0.5ft surf due.
This weekend onwards (Nov 28 onwards)
There's nothing significant due through Saturday as winds tend back to the SE, but later Sunday and Monday two pulses of SW groundswell are due to fill in.
These will be from back to back lows pendulum swinging from the Heard Island region, down towards the polar shelf and then back to the north towards Tassie, not favourably through our swell window.
Limited swell is then expected, with the first pulse later Sunday only due to reach 3-4ft+ in the South West, with Monday's late kick being better to 5-6ft. Perth isn't expected to see any major size at all with tiny 0.5-1ft waves continuing.
Longer term there's still nothing major showing on the charts, more on this Wednesday though.
