Recap
Bumpy/lumpy surf yesterday as a cold front clipped the state, bringing with it a large increase in mid-period swell mixed in with stronger groundswell sets later. This morning the swell has cleaned up and is on the ease with excellent 6ft waves across the Surf Coast, bigger to the east and best in protected spots.
The swell will ease into this afternoon as winds tend light N/NE.
This weekend and next week (Jun 3 - 9)
The coming weekend is a tricky one, with tomorrow morning likely to offer the best window of waves.
We'll see today's large S/SW groundswell continuing to ease steadily through tomorrow, and winds will be N/NW tending W/NW ahead of a trough which will bring a S tending S/SE change after lunch.
The Surf Coast should ease back from 3ft to occasionally 4ft on the magnets early, with 4-6ft sets to the east.
Winds will swing around to the E/NE-NE on Sunday morning and likely hold most of the day as a weakening mid-latitude low starts to move in from the west.
Swell wise, a moderate sized + pulse of new S/SW groundswell is due to build rapidly through the morning, generated by strong polar low that's currently south of the country.
The low is generating a fetch of gale to severe-gale winds and will continue east today, with the swell due to build to 4-5ft through the day on the Surf Coast (likely peaking afternoon), with 6ft to possibly 8ft sets to the east.
With this wind and swell combo, options will be limited.
Monday will see the swell easing fairly steadily, back from 3ft on the Surf Coast and 4-5ft to the east under a NE breeze. Winds look to shift E/SE into the afternoon so surf before lunch.
Come Tuesday, winds will be great for the beaches again and fresh from the N/NE but with a small fading signal. 1-2ft on the Surf Coast and 2-3ft to the east.
A strong fetch of NW gales look too far off axis to generate any size on Tuesday, though the models are showing tiny traces of long-period energy.
Wednesday will become smaller as winds hold out of the N/NE thanks to another mid-latitude low forming over in Western Australia.
This mid-latitude activity isn't great for swell, with the storms being too far north to generate anything of size for us.
We may see a stronger frontal progression pushing east late week, though the models diverge regarding the timing and strength. More on this Monday. Make the most of the current surf and have a great weekend!

W.P. this morning from dawn until about 10 am was very good.
Wow has the wind at Bells gone ENE?
Just saw a massive bomb take out the pack.
Can only imagine there'd b a spot rifling away down the coast today.
Thanks for delivering a great run of swell Craigos - give us a few days breather and dial it back up in a week or so!
