Best Days: Surf Coast keen surfers Sunday morning

Recap

Average onshore waves around Torquay yesterday morning to 2ft, before a more variable breeze developed through the day. The Mornington Peninsula was a good 3-5ft, easing through the day, with much smaller and peaky 2ft waves left into this morning.

The Surf Coast saw a SE windswell to 2ft which I failed to mention on Monday and conditions were good with a variable wind.

This week and weekend (Dec 29 – Dec 1)

Today's small SE windswell and background W/SW swell will fade through the day leaving tiny waves across all coasts tomorrow (likely flat on the Surf Coast and 1-1.5ft on the Mornington Peninsula.

Conditions will be clean most of the day with a N/NE tending N/NW wind and possible late afternoon sea breezes.

Friday morning will remain tiny with a strong mid-latitude currently in the Bight due to lose all its strength once it moves across us Friday.

A weak fetch of W/NW winds will be generated in our western swell window and with this, no size is expected through Bass Strait.

A very inconsistent long-range W'ly groundswell is due into the afternoon but the Surf Coast will remain tiny, with inconsistent 2-3ft sets likely on the Mornington Peninsula.

Winds should be offshore through the morning ahead of a shallow W/SW change and sea breezes.

Saturday isn't any better with the inconsistent W'ly groundswell due to ease with a light NW offshore breeze through the morning.

Our very inconsistent and slightly better W/SW groundswell due into Sunday is still on track, generated in our far far swell window between Madagascar and Heard Island by a very strong and slow moving polar low.

The Surf Coast should building to an inconsistent 2ft+ at swell magnets with 3-4ft+ waves on the Mornington Peninsula. A morning W/NW breeze is due favouring the Surf Coast ahead of a W/SW change.

Next weekend onwards (Dec 2 onwards)

Sunday's change will be followed by a weak fetch of SW winds, producing a small SW windswell for Monday to 2ft on the Surf Coast and 3-4ft on the Mornington Peninsula but with SW winds.

Longer term small surf with average winds will continue Wednesday, possibly cleaning up east of Melbourne Thursday. More on this Friday.
