All eyes on the weekend
Victoria Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 30th November)
Best Days: Saturday morning both coasts, Sunday morning both coasts
Recap
Clean conditions across both regions yesterday with small 2ft waves on the Surf Coast and 3-4ft sets on the Mornington Peninsula before fresher onshore winds kicked in through the afternoon.
Today the swell was smaller and bumpy on the Surf Coast, while the Mornington Peninsula saw early light winds and clean conditions again.
This week and weekend (Dec 1- 4)
The next couple of days aren't too interesting at all.
The surf will bottom out tomorrow morning leaving tiny waves on the Surf Coast and 2ft+ waves on the Mornington Peninsula with a variable wind through the morning.
Into the afternoon a new inconsistent W/SW groundswell is due, but a slightly better pulse is due Friday to 2ft on the Surf Coast and 3-4ft+ on the Mornington Peninsula.
An early W/NW offshore wind will favour the Surf Coast if you're desperate before a fresh W/SW change moves through late morning.
Now, heading into the weekend our good W/SW groundswell is still on track, with a strong low expected to form this evening under WA.
Initially a fetch of strong SW winds will be generated through our western swell window, followed by a stronger, better aligned and stalling fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds tomorrow. The fetch should weaken a touch through Friday but persist in our south-western swell window right until Friday evening.
What we should see is a moderate to large sized W/SW groundswell for Saturday, building from 3-4ft through the morning on the Surf Coast to a stronger 5ft sets through the afternoon, while the Mornington Peninsula should build from 6ft to 6-8ft through the day.
A peak is expected overnight, with the swell easing from the SW Sunday morning. 3-5ft sets are due on the Surf Coast early and 6ft+ waves on the Mornington Peninsula.
Conditions should be good across both regions on Saturday morning with a light variable wind before S/SE sea breezes kick in.
Sunday will then be best on the beaches across both regions with an offshore N/NE wind ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
Next week onwards (Dec 5 onwards)
Smaller waves are due into early next week, and an onshore change Sunday evening is expected to linger into Monday morning.
Tuesday should be fun on the beaches east of Melbourne as winds swing back to the east, but more on this Friday.
Comments
Why is the forcast only say 3ft at the swells peak over the weekend and not 5ft ?
Cheers
Just that the algorithm isn't representing the swell as well as I think it will be for the weekend.
