Average weekend, not much better next week
Victoria Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 4th December)
Best Days: Both coasts Saturday morning, protected spots east of Melbourne Sunday morning, both coasts Tuesday morning
Recap
Clean good and easing surf in the 3ft+ range across the Surf Coast yesterday morning with offshore winds, while the Mornington Peninsula was average and bumpy.
Today winds have swung 180 favouring the Mornington Peninsula with good clean 4-5ft sets, while the Surf Coast was best on the beaches with sets in the 3ft range.
This weekend and next week (Dec 5 - 11)
The weekend is looking small and a little dicey wind wise.
2ft surf is due across the Surf Coast tomorrow morning with 3-4ft sets on the Mornington Peninsula and a light SE'ly gradient wind looks to be weak enough for land breezes to equalise it, hopefully resulting in variable winds through the morning.
A fresh SE'ly is expected to develop through the afternoon as a new inconsistent W/SW groundswell fills in. Only a slight kick to 2ft+ and 3-5ft is expected respectively, easing back through Sunday from 2ft, and 3-4ft+ Sunday morning.
Fresh and gusty E'ly winds, will only favour protected spots east of Melbourne though before shifting more E/SE into the afternoon kicking up some SE windswell for the Surf Coast.
Poor conditions with no real groundswell are expected into Monday morning with fresh and gusty E/SE winds continuing. A sloppy and junky 2-3ft of windswell is due on the Surf Coast, easing back into Tuesday from 2ft as winds swing offshore from the N'th.
The Mornington Peninsula should offer a touch more size to 2-3ft into Tuesday morning as a small inconsistent S/SW groundswell fills in, from a late forming and weak polar front over the weekend. Get in through the morning with those offshores before a late onshore change moves through.
For the rest of next week there's nothing significant on the cards with a small weak increase in W/SW windswell and long-period SW groundswell due.
No size is expected Wednesday morning when winds will be offshore for the Surf Coast, while Thursday will be lucky to offer 2ft sets west of Melbourne under a possible early W'ly. Not the best combo.
Longer term a better W/SW groundswell is due next weekend from a slow moving and favourably tracking low from the south-west of WA, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
