Southern Tasmanian Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday June 15th)

Best Days: Tomorrow beginners, Friday, Saturday, early Sunday

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Small mix of leftover swells tomorrow with NW tending variable winds
  • Inconsistent, moderate sized SE groundswell arriving late tomorrow, peaking Fri, easing Sat, small to tiny Sun
  • Moderate N/NW tending variable winds Fri, light NW tending variable Sat and moderate N tending fresh NE Sun

Recap

Plenty of swell hanging in the mix yesterday with easing S energy and a new S/SW groundswell for the afternoon along with light winds. Today is clean again with easing S/SW energy from 2-3ft.

This week and weekend (Jun 16 - 19)

We'll fall in between swells tomorrow with smaller 1-2ft sets due across Clifton but with light NW offshore winds and weak/variable sea breezes. For those beginners, tomorrow is the day.

Later into the afternoon our strong pulse of SE groundswell is due, with a peak expected on Friday.

This has been generated by a significant fetch of severe-gale to storm-force E/SE-SE winds to the south-southeast of New Zealand the last couple of days, with the longevity and breadth generating a prolonged, inconsistent SE groundswell.

1-2ft sets may be see late tomorrow but Friday should reveal strong 3-4ft sets across Clifton, with more exposed breaks open to the swell coming in much stronger. This and the East Coast.

The swell will start to ease Saturday but still be 3ft, dropping from 1ft to possibly 2ft on Sunday.

Winds on Friday look great and moderate N/NW, tending variable with light NW tending variable winds on Saturday.

Sunday will become windy with a morning N'ly due to freshen from the NE ahead of an approaching frontal progression so get in early.

Unfortunately following the SE groundswell there's nothing noteworthy on the cards with the storm track remaining too far north and focussed up and into Western Australia. Therefore make the most of the coming energy.
