Recap
Average surf Christmas morning with a jump in swell yesterday coming in at 3ft through the morning but with lumpy and bumpy conditions. There was more size into the afternoon but conditions deteriorated with more wind.
This morning the surf was a little cleaner with lighter winds and easing sets from 2-3ft+ but fresh sea breezes have created choppy waves this afternoon.
This week and weekend (Dec 28 – Jan 2)
Make the most of the cleaner, smaller surf over the coming days as following this there's not much on the cards long term.
The frontal progression linked to yesterday's and today's swell has moved on, with weaker trailing energy generating a reinforcing, smaller pulse for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
Tomorrow should still see 1-2ft waves with an early W'ly wind, shifting quickly S/SE and strengthening. So go the early.
Wednesday morning might be a little undersized and to 1-1.5ft with the new swell for the afternoon due to kick to 2ft on the sets, easing from a similar size Thursday morning.
Winds on Wednesday morning look light W'ly early but again shifting W/SW-SW during the morning ahead of strong S/SE sea breezes.
Thursday should be the cleanest with a N/NW offshore ahead of S/SE sea breezes developing late morning.
Friday will start tiny but a strengthening frontal system passing under us may kick up a weak 1-1.5ft of swell late in the day and early Saturday morning. Friday afternoon will be bumpy with S/SE winds while Saturday morning looks clean, creating ideal conditions for beginners.
Longer term there's not much on the cards until a new W/SW swell moves in early-mid next week but we'll have a closer look at this Wednesday.
