Recap
A bit of size yesterday with clean conditions early while today is back to 1-2ft but much cleaner with more options on the coast.
This weekend and next week (Dec 25 - 31)
Upgrade! We've got an upgrade in the swell due Sunday and Monday across the coast, but ahead of this, some small, inconsistent SE groundswell should be now in the water, with it due to ease from an inconsistent 1-2ft tomorrow morning.
The source of this swell was a stationary low south of New Zealand earlier in the week.
It'll ease through tomorrow and conditions will be cleanest at dawn with a N/NW offshore ahead of a fresh SW change by 7-8am.
This change will be linked to the strong frontal progression moving in from the west with a stronger fetch of W/SW gales now due to project east through our south-western swell window over the coming 24 hours.
The progression will have a weaker SW fetch into Sunday, with the largest and strongest size seen through Sunday, with mid-period energy easing Monday.
Size wise Sunday should see sets building to a strong 4ft but with moderate to fresh W/SW tending strong SW winds.
Winds unfortunately look to linger from the SW on Monday owing to the tail of the frontal progression with easing sets from 3ft+.
Tuesday still looks clean with a morning W/NW breeze but the swell will be fading from 1-2ft.
Our good reinforcing pulse of SW groundswell for Wednesday and Thursday has unfortunately been downgraded with the low now due to just be a weak frontal system. We're looking at 2ft surf continuing into Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning along with favourable winds each morning.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards so make the most of the coming surf. Have a great Christmas!
