A couple of swells to play with
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 8th March)
Best Days: Tomorrow morning, Wednesday morning, later Friday, Saturday morning
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- New W/SW groundswell for tomorrow with NW tending SW winds, easing Wed with NW winds ahead of S/SE sea breezes
- Good new mid-period SW swell for later Fri, easing Sat with favourable winds
Recap
The surf continued to pump out of the S'th on Saturday with great winds for protected spots, cleaner again across Clifton into Sunday as the swell dropped further from 2-3ft.
Today we've got tiny leftovers, ideal for beginners.
This week and weekend (Mar 9 - 14)
Tomorrow, we've got an inconsistent W/SW groundswell due across Clifton, generated by a small low in our medium-range swell window, with the remnants of the low now weakening south-west of us.
Sets to 2ft+ are due and winds look offshore in the morning, out of NW, shifting SW and strengthening into the afternoon.
Easing 1-2ft sets are expected Wednesday and conditions look clean again with a NW offshore ahead of S/SE sea breezes.
Our next increase in swell will be another small, fun one, generated by a patchy polar low forming south-west of us tomorrow evening. A fetch of strong to possibly gale-force W/NW winds are due, producing a mid-period SW swell to 2ft+ later Friday and Saturday morning.
Weak sea breezes shouldn't do too much damage Friday afternoon, while Saturday should see strong N/NE-N winds holding all day.
Following this we've got a stronger frontal system forecast to project on the edge of our swell window through the weekend, generating a good W/SW groundswell for early next week, but more on this in Wednesday and Friday's updates.
