Quiet weekend, lots of swell next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 4th December)
Best Days: Beginners tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday onwards
Recap
Wednesday's large kick in swell eased back through yesterday from 3ft with clean conditions, while today it's dropped back further to 1-2ft. A weak front passing under us today should maintain 1-2ft sets into this afternoon, fading tomorrow.
This weekend and next week (Dec 5 - 11)
We'll see today's leftover groundswell and localised W/SW swell easing back tomorrow from 1-1.5ft but conditions will be great and ideal for beginners with a N-N/NE winds, strengthening through the day.
Sunday is expected to near flat and with strengthening W/NW winds as a strong mid-latitude low moves across us.
Initially this low will sit just too far north of our swell window, with a fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW winds aimed more towards Bass Strait, but moving into Monday and Tuesday, we'll see the low drag up strong to gale-force SW-S/SW winds behind it.
This doesn't look to occur until Monday and initially we'll see an increase in localised windswell through the afternoon with a strong NW tending SW wind. Come Tuesday the S/SW swell proper is due with 3-4ft surf likely across Clifton but with strong SW winds, possibly shifting W'ly late.
Following the low a broader and good looking polar frontal progression is forecast to fire up in our swell window, mid-next week, generating a good SW groundswell for Wednesday afternoon through the end of the week. Winds look mostly favourable each morning as well, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
