Make the most of the coming days
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 13th January)
Best Days: Tomorrow morning, Wednesday morning (afternoon selected spots)
Recap
A tiny start to the weekend ahead of a windy and building swell, becoming large into yesterday with a peak in S/SW groundswell from the 'bombing low' and good winds for protected spots.
The swell has eased back in size today with cleaner conditions across more exposed breaks and easy 3ft sets.
This week and weekend (Jan 14 – 19)
Moving into tomorrow and there should still be some fun leftover S'ly sets from the weekend's low, coming in around 2ft to possibly 3ft across Clifton.
Winds are a little suss but should be hopefully variable out of the E ahead of sea breezes.
Later in the day but more so Wednesday our new W/SW groundswell is due, generated by a strong polar low that's currently west-southwest of us. A great fetch of W/SW gales are being generated and the swell should peak Wednesday morning to a good 3ft on the sets across Clifton. The swell will ease into the afternoon and further from 2ft through Thursday.
Conditions look good Wednesday at selected spots with a gusty N/NE offshore, swinging more E/NE through the day and strengthening. This will be ahead of a trough and poor onshore S/SW winds on Thursday.
Unfortunately a strong high moving in slowly from the west will keep onshore S/SE winds blowing across the South Arm into Friday along with a mix of windswell and new mid-period W/SW swell. Expect junky waves to 1-2ft or so, fading Saturday as S/SE winds persist.
The longer term outlook isn't too flash at all owing to back to back blocking highs moving through our swell window. Therefore make the most of the coming days of waves.
