Plenty more swell to come
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 4th December)
Best Days: Thursday, protected spots Friday, Sunday keen surfers, Monday morning
Recap
A mix of swells to 2-3ft yesterday with winds from the W, similar today though options sounded a little limited. We should have seen the swell building further this afternoon and reaching 4ft late owing to a strong front passing slowly under us.
This week and weekend (Dec 5 - 8)
Any size seen later today from the front currently south of us is due to ease tomorrow, likely dropping from 3ft or so, bottoming out early Friday though likely not dropping below 2ft. Winds look great tomorrow and N/NW through the morning, shifting stronger W/NW into the afternoon and then W/SW late. Friday will then see an early W/NW breeze, strengthening from the W through the day.
Our fresh pulse of SW tending S/SW swell for Friday afternoon and the weekend is still on track, with one final intensification of the frontal progression we've been seeing this week due to surge up and over us.
A fetch of strong W/SW tending SW and then final weaker S/SW winds will be projected up and into the state, kicking up a building W/SW swell Friday, likely to 3ft later, and then peaking Saturday to 3-4ft from the SW. Winds will be accordingly unfavourable and strong from the W/SW.
Sunday should still offer plenty of size, easing from 3ft out of the S/SW but with lingering W/SW winds it now seems ahead of S/SE sea breezes. Monday will be clean but with smaller, easing 2ft sets.
Longer term the outlook is very quiet so try and work the coming swells and winds.
