This weekend and next week (Oct 16 – 21)
A touched on last update, there isn't much in the way of surf due across our region over the coming period, with a tiny W'ly swell possibly offering peelers for beginners Thursday and Friday.
This swell was generated by a strong storm firing up south-west of WA, aiming a pre-frontal fetch of severe-gale W/NW winds through our western swell window, with core wind speeds reaching storm-force briefly last night.
This may generate a tiny though inconsistent 1-1.5ft wave on Thursday with gusty N/NE winds, favouring more exposed breaks, with fading surf Friday under a light morning NW breeze.
Into Saturday a strong mid-latitude front pushing across us may generate a small pulse of W'ly windswell into the afternoon with strong W'ly winds, fading Sunday.
Longer term we're looking at some slightly better W/SW groundswell into next week as a strong node of the Long Wave Trough develops in the Bight, projecting a series of strong polar and mid-latitude fronts through our western swell window.
We'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday though.
