No changes to the outlook for the next few days.
Friday and early Saturday will remain tiny and windy, ahead of a small increase in long period W/SW groundswell Saturday afternoon, before Sunday jumps considerably in size with a mix of groundswells associated with several Southern Ocean lows and a vigorous frontal passage through our immediate swell window.
Sunday’s swell increase will be accompanied by SW gales (outside chance for early W/NW winds across the South Arm) though we will see wind speeds moderate though the day. Exposed beaches should reach 4-5ft, protected spots will be much smaller as there’ll be a reasonable percentage of west in the swell direction.
Wave heights will then ease slowly through the start of next week. A secondary front pushing up from directly south of Tasmania (though aimed into NZ) later Sun/Mon will spread some small swell back into the South Arm mid-week but there won’t be much size. Locally we’ll remain under a moderate to fresh W’ly breeze up until about Thursday.
The next series of fronts are expected around the following weekend, which is the most likely time that our swell trend will head upwards again. More on that in Saturday’s update.
