Tiny ahead of S'ly swell
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 14th August)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday morning
Recap
Tiny tricky W'ly swell to 1-1.5ft on Saturday, followed by some better S'ly swell Sunday, building from 2ft in the morning with N'ly winds.
Today the swell had dropped back to the 1-2ft range with light offshore tending stronger W/NW winds.
This week and weekend (Aug 15 - 20)
There's not much in the way of surf due across the state until Friday when a good S/SW swell should fill in.
We've got a flurry of strong mid-latitude frontal activity moving in from the west across Southern Australia and Victoria.
This will all be too far north to generate swell for our coasts, but a polar front forming south-west of us will move slowly east while generating a fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds through our southern swell window.
A moderate sized S/SW swell should be generated, filling in Friday along with an onshore change, but remaining a good size into Saturday morning.
Clifton should see sets building to an easy 3ft+ through Friday but with gusty S/SW winds, while a peak in swell is due overnight, easing Saturday morning from a similar 3ft+.
Conditions will become cleaner with a morning W/NW breeze, tending W/SW during the late morning with a change.
This change may generate a small W/SW swell to 1-2ft across Clifton Sunday and Monday, but more on this Wednesday.
