Small swell for Sunday, more size Monday but onshore
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th February)
Best Days: Sunday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday, Thursday morning
Recap
Very tiny surf the last few days, not really surfable.
This week and next (Feb 11 - 17)
Tomorrow morning should still start out tiny, but the swell due later in the day and Sunday is now looking a touch better, with a peak to 1-2ft expected.
This is due to the broad but relatively weak front being a touch stronger and persisting at this strength for a longer time within our swell window.
The swell is expected to build later tomorrow but winds will be average, with cleaner conditions Sunday morning with an early W/NW breeze.
Looking into Monday, and the better aligned and stronger polar front linked to some new swell looks to come from a more SW direction, resulting in the swell coming from the SW, instead of S/SW.
The front won't be especially strong but the projection is good and we should see 3ft+ waves across the South Arm all day Monday but with fresh to strong SW winds.
Cleaner conditions should be seen Tuesday morning as the swell drops back from 2-3ft.
Wednesday is looking fun with offshore winds all day and 1-2ft surf, while a new kick in W/SW swell is on the cards for Thursday, generate by an intense low moving in from the west.
We're expected to see a great fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds aimed through our western swell window, producing a solid spike in swell Thursday afternoon, reaching 3ft. While the morning will be clean, the afternoon looks bumpy with winds from the east.
Friday looks good with clean easing 2-3ft sets.
Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards, so make the most of the coming swell pulses. Have a great weekend!
