Onshore S/SW swell building Friday, cleaner and easing Saturday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 7th December)
Best Days: Protected spots Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, Monday morning
Recap
Tiny 1ft waves were reported yesterday morning and this morning, even though the Surf Coast came in at 3ft and the fetch linked to the forecast W/SW swell was better aligned for us.
This week and weekend (Dec 8 - 11)
While yesterday's W/SW swell failed to offer any real size, the S/SW swell due late week and into the weekend is still on track.
A strong cold front moving in from the west is expected to move across us Thursday evening, aiming a fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds through our southern swell window.
A moderate sized S/SW swell is expected to build through Friday, reaching 3-4ft across Clifton into the afternoon and then easing from 2-3ft Saturday morning.
Winds on Friday will be poor and strong from the SW, cleaner Saturday with a morning offshore W/NW'ly.
Sunday morning is expected to start slow, but a new W/SW groundswell is due to build into the afternoon, peaking Monday morning around 2ft.
This will be produced by a pre-frontal and post-frontal fetch of W/NW and W/SW winds moving in from the west over the weekend.
Onshore winds are due as the swell builds Sunday, with a morning offshore Monday.
Longer term we may see a new swell mid-late week, but more on this Friday.
