Clean fun waves early Sunday, clean again Tuesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 16th September)
Best Days: Sunday morning, Tuesday
Recap
A lift in swell yesterday but with onshore winds. Today was cleaner but a little morning sick early, improving through the day as offshores ironed out the swell.
This weekend and next week (Sep 17 - 23)
Clifton should continue to see 1-2ft sets tomorrow with a lift in SW swell and conditions are due to remain clean all day with persistent offshore winds.
Sunday's inconsistent long-range W/SW groundswell is still on track, with it being generated since last Sunday by a strong polar low traversing the southern Indian Ocean and then weakening south-west of the country.
We should see infrequent 2ft sets, maybe the odd sneaker, easing into the afternoon. Conditions are due to be clean early before a trough moves across us, bringing an onshore S/SE change.
Unfortunately onshore S/SE winds are due to persist into Monday, spoiling a mix of new W/SW groundswells that are currently being generated by pre-frontal and post-frontal gales.
Two W/SW swells are due, the strongest for the afternoon and reaching a good 2-3ft across Clifton. The swells should then ease into Tuesday from 2ft or so as winds swing offshore from the N'th.
Longer term, long-range W/SW groundswell energy is due into Wednesday and Thursday but not above 1-2ft or so. Winds looking a little dicey as well, early W/NW and then SW. We'll look at this again Monday. Have a great weekend!
