Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 12th September)

Best Days: Possibly Tuesday morning if winds variable, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Recap

Tiny onshore waves Saturday but into Sunday a strong new mix of swells filled in, reaching 3ft through the day under light offshores before SE sea breezes kicked in.

Today the swell was back to 2ft but nice and clean again through the morning.

This week (Sep 13 - 16)

Later today a fresh pulse of SW groundswell is expected, generated by a healthy polar front over the weekend.

The swell should peak tomorrow morning to 3ft across Clifton but winds are looking a little dicey with a light onshore S/SE'ly expected. Hopefully land breezes cancel this out creating variable winds.

Wednesday looks similar with us falling between swells early. A light SE'ly will freshen through the day as a deep low forming to our north slowly dirfts east.

This will spoil another strong pulse of SW groundswell for the afternoon and Thursday, generated by a pre-frontal fetch of severe-gale W/NW winds currently south-west of WA.

The swell should be similar to Tuesday's with strong 3ft sets across Clifton but along with onshore S'ly winds.

Friday will be the day to surf as winds tend NW and the swell eases from 2-3ft.

Longer term we've got plenty more pulses of inconsistent W/SW groundswell due from the weekend and into early next week from continues polar frontal activity in our medium to long-range swell window.

These swells will be less consistent, but should come in around either side of 2ft Saturday and Sunday, possibly better Monday, but more on this Wednesday.
