Fun swells Tuesday and Thursday, then early next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 26th August)
Best Days: Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday week
Recap
Tiny waves Saturday, with a lift in new swell Sunday but with less than ideal winds, improving into the afternoon. Today was good with the swell hanging in around 2-3ft with offshores. Later today we may see some new S/SW groundswell but this is due to peak tomorrow morning.
This week (Aug 30 – Sep 2)
Tomorrow morning's S/SW groundswell has been downgraded a touch further from Friday, with the polar frontal system generating it being a touch weaker and forming a touch later than ideal. In saying this we're still expected to see good 3ft+ sets across Clifton tomorrow morning, easing rapidly into the afternoon with N/NW tending fresh N/NE winds.
Wednesday should still have waves to 2ft along with offshore tending variable winds.
Our new pulse of SW groundswell for Thursday morning is still on track, with a vigorous polar low firing up around Heard Island, generating a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/NW winds through our swell window.
Fun 2-3ft waves are due Thursday morning, easing larger and back to 2ft Friday with generally favourable winds all day.
This weekend onwards (Sep 3 onwards)
Saturday is expected to be small but clean through most of the day, but come Sunday and more so Monday some good W/SW groundswell is expected.
This will be generated by a vigorous polar frontal progression firing up south-west of WA and projecting an elongated fetch of severe-gale W'ly – W/NW winds through our western swell window while nearing us into the weekend.
This should produce a couple of good W/SW groundswell pulses, the best for Monday to 3ft on the sets, but we'll have another look at this Wednesday.
