Clean fun easing swell tomorrow, average through early next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 29th July)
Best Days: Saturday
Recap
A solid kick in W/SW groundswell yesterday morning to 3-4ft, easing back quickly through the day, with leftover 2ft sets into this morning. Later today some new W/SW swell is due, but with onshore winds.
This weekend and next week (Jul 29 – Aug 5)
Tomorrow's kick in SW groundswell will be generated by the front pushing across us this afternoon. A fetch of gale-force W/SW and SW winds should produce a fun pulse of mid-period SW groundswell for tomorrow morning, slightly down on Wednesday's expectations which was down on Monday's forecast.
Sets to 3ft are now due, easing into the afternoon under N/NW tending N'ly winds.
There isn't expected to be much size left on Sunday with a distant W/SW groundswell helping to keep 1-2ft waves hitting Clifton, smaller into the afternoon as a new W/SW windswell fills in.
Conditions look OK with a W/NW-W breeze holding most of the day.
Into early next week the surf will be tiny, while Tuesday may offer some refracted W/SW groundswell from a large swell impacting our west coast. The source of this swell will be a very large storm firing up into and under WA, generating an XXL swell for the Margaret River region Sunday.
Most of this swell will be generated too far north of us, but we may see some small 2ft waves pushing into the South Arm Tuesday. Unfortunately onshore S/SW winds are expected anyway as a deepening cut-off low forms over us.
The location, strength and longevity of this low is still undecided by the weather models, and with this any forecast in swell for us from Wednesday onwards is too tricky. So check back here Monday for an update on this. Have a great weekend!
Comments
Hey Craig .. kinda assuming no one will check here.
Interested in the tassie points, I know what swell/wind and stuff they need but it seems like Tassie is difficult to forecast because a bunch of places are calling a big S swell coming in tomorrow but some, such as these foreacster notes, aren't .... What place is the best place to check for swell forecast for Lau .... ? Is the stuff on South Arm relevant ?
Cheers, looked like you had a fun weekend hopefully theres more waves for ya !
Let me just say there is no big southerly swell coming :)
And thanks, yeah great weekend of surf!
You know what they say about assuming things superfish
Fuck, I wish I had nothing better to do than look at these comments .... I guess it's that or shard to kill time if you live inland haha
