Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 15th April)

Best Days: Sunday, Monday

Recap

Yesterday's inconsistent SW groundswell came in well with infrequent 2-3ft sets under morning offshores, more variable into the afternoon.

Today the swell was back to a smaller and fading 1-2ft, with fresher NW offshores.

This weekend and next week (Apr 16 - 22)

As touched on Wednesday, this weekend we're set to see a strong and powerful long-period SW groundswell impacting the state, peaking through the middle of the day/afternoon Sunday.

This has already started to be generated by a pro-longed and relatively weak polar frontal system moving in from the west.

This storm is forecast to strengthen significantly this afternoon and evening, aiming a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force SW winds through our south-western swell window until early tomorrow morning.

What we'll see is a building W/SW tending SW swell from the weaker gale to severe-gale winds pushing under us tomorrow morning, kicking from 1-2ft early tomorrow, to 2-3ft by dark, with the groundswell peaking to a solid 3-5ft through the day Sunday.

Conditions tomorrow aren't looking the best with the passing storm, leading to gusty W/SW winds (possibly W'ly for a short-period tomorrow morning).

Sunday then looks good most of the day with a morning NW breeze, tending more W/NW through the day and then W/SW into the mid-late afternoon.

The swell will ease back through Monday from the 3ft range under all day offshore N/NW winds.

As touched on last update, there's not much expected for the rest of the week at all, therefore make the most of the waves coming over the next few days. Have a great weekend!
