Slow weekend, better swells next week but onshore
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 11th March)
Best Days: Sunday morning, Thursday morning for tiny leftovers
Recap
Yesterday's strong kick in SW swell was a little slow early with 2ft sets reported across the South Arm, but through the day a solid spike in swell was seen from the intense mid-latitude low that moved through our swell window.
This swell has eased back considerably into this morning leaving fading 1-2ft sets.
This weekend and next week (Mar 12 - 16)
Tiny leftovers are still due into tomorrow with a light to moderate onshore breeze ahead of a small and inconsistent increase Sunday from a strong polar frontal progression in our far swell window.
Clifton should offer infrequent 1-2ft sets with favourable offshore N'ly winds ahead of a shallow S'ly change into the afternoon.
Through the early to middle stages of next week, good pulses of SW groundswell are due from a strong frontal progression generating a pre-frontal fetch of W/NW severe-gales and then post-frontal fetch of W/SW gales.
This will generate a couple of good SW groundswell pulses, the best through Tuesday (2-3ft) but unfortunately an onshore S/SW change through Monday will linger through Tuesday and Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west.
Only some small S/SE windswell is due off this, with both the windswell and groundswell easing into Thursday as winds swing back offshore from the N/NW. Only small 1-1.5ft sets max are due though.
Longer term there's some better swell potential into next weekend, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
