Exposed breaks Tuesday, fun swell Friday/Saturday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 4th January)
Best Days: Tuesday exposed breaks, Friday morning, Saturday morning
Recap
Poor weekend of waves with onshore winds and tiny amounts of swell. Cleaner conditions were seen this morning with light offshore winds but a tiny swell.
This week and weekend (Jan 5 – 10)
A slight kick in new SW groundswell is due through tomorrow to 1-1.5ft through the afternoon. While not the greatest swell, NE winds will favour more exposed breaks picking up more size.
Wednesday will be easing and poor with an early onshore SW tending S/SW change.
As talked about last update, from about late-week we've got some fun SW groundswell pulses on the cars, the first being small and only kicking to 1-2ft late in the day Thursday (with onshore winds).
Of greater importance is a better fetch of pre-frontal W/NW tending W/SW gales pushing through our swell window during the middle to end of the week.
This should produce a good moderate sized SW groundswell for Friday, building to 2-3ft into the afternoon and then easing from a similar size Saturday morning as a secondary less favourably aligned front pushes through.
Winds on Friday should be good most of the day with W/NW offshores and then afternoon sea breezes. Saturday will be clean through the morning with a light W/NW wind ahead of SE sea breezes.
Longer term smaller swells are due into early next week, but more on this Wednesday.
