Easing clean surf onshore Friday and Saturday, small swell Tuesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 30th December)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning
Recap
Tiny surf yesterday, but a new W/SW groundswell due into today has come in really well with 3ft sets reported across Clifton above the expected 2ft.
Conditions were great this morning but strong sea breezes have since kicked in.
This week and weekend (Dec 31 – Jan 3)
This morning's strong kick in W/SW groundswell is due to ease back through tomorrow from an inconsistent 1-2ft on the sets with light morning offshores before giving into SE sea breezes.
Weak polar frontal activity through our south-western swell window over the coming days should produce some tiny inconsistent pulses of SW groundswell over the coming days in the 1ft+ range.
Winds will however be poor from Friday as a surface trough pushes in from the west, bringing a fresh S'ly change early morning, tending more S/SE through the day and persisting Saturday. Sunday should become cleaner with a light N'ly offshore ahead of sea breezes.
Next week onwards (Jan 3 onwards)
Monday is expected to remain tiny but a fun new SW groundswell is due Tuesday from some stronger polar activity to our south-west through the weekend.
A small polar low should generate a fetch of gale to severe-gale WNW winds, producing fun 1-2ft of swell for Tuesday, easing a touch Wednesday with the possibility of similar pulses through the week.
Generally favourable offshore winds are due each morning ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
