Slow period until mid-next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 11th September)
Best Days: Later Saturday, early Sunday, Thursday onwards
Recap
A kick in swell yesterday with 2ft sets across Clifton under favourable winds, while a better SW pulse due later in the day and this morning has come above the expected 2ft, with 2-3ft sets across Clifton under offshore winds. This swell should be easing but conditions are still crisp and clean.
This weekend and next week (Sep 12 – 18)
Tomorrow is expected to start out tiny, but a very late kick in new W/SW swell is due from a vigorous but unfavourably tracking frontal system in from the west today. This frontal system is strong but tracking south-east with a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/NW winds being aimed through our western swell window. The tail of this system should see a fast moving and short-lived burst of SW gales aimed through our swell window.
Two swells are expected, with a late kick in W/SW swell to 1-2ft due tomorrow, easing from a similar size out of the SW Sunday morning.
Winds should be offshore from the NW through the morning, tending W/SW during the day and then N'ly tending N/NW winds Sunday.
Monday will remain clean through the morning but tiny with morning offshores ahead of a late onshore change.
Our better SW groundswell energy for the middle to end of the week is still on the cards but not to the size expected on Wednesday.
The frontal progression as a whole isn't expected to be as strong or favourably aligned, but with a broad and elongated fetch of W/SW gales we should see a moderate sized SW groundswell generated.
This swell is expected to build Wednesday and reach 2-3ft into the afternoon, holding Thursday before easing Friday.
Conditions look a little dicey Wednesday with a variable tending offshore breeze, while Thursday and Friday should be clean.
Longer term some inconsistent W/SW groundswell is on the cards, but we'll review this again Monday. Have a great weekend!
