Small week with improving winds
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 7th September)
Best Days: Wednesday morning, later Thursday, Friday morning
Recap
Saturday was average with a kick in good swell but onshore winds. Sunday provided much cleaner conditions with easing 2ft waves under N'ly breezes.
Today the surf was a small 1-2ft and clean again with a mix of S'ly and building long-range W/SW groundswell.
This week and weekend (Sep 8 – 13)
We've got an average couple of days ahead with an onshore SW change due through tomorrow morning as a small and intense mid-latitude low pushes across us. This will create poor and messy 1-2ft waves.
Wednesday should be cleaner with a small inconsistent S/SE groundswell from a funky fetch of S'ly gales south of Tassie yesterday and this morning.
I feel the models are overcooking this slightly with only infrequent 1-2ft sets due across Clifton, easing into the afternoon with W/NW tending W/SW winds.
Thursday is then due to be tiny but with W/NW winds, ideal for beginners.
Into the late afternoon a small lift in SW groundswell may be seen to 2ft, but this is more likely Friday, generated by a broad fetch of W/SW gales along the polar shelf tomorrow and Wednesday.
Friday morning should be great as well with N/NW tending N'ly winds.
Into the weekend the surf will become near flat with nothing significant due until Tuesday/Wednesday next week when a stronger polar frontal progression fires up directly to our south-west. More on this Wednesday though.
