Average period ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 31st August)
Best Days: Tuesday morning, next week
Recap
Solid onshore waves through Saturday with protected spots offering the only real option for a wave, while Sunday was smaller but poor with a fresh S'ly breeze continuing. Today was smaller with the SE swell continuing at 2-3ft with S/SE winds, creating average conditions.
This week and weekend (Sep 1 – Sep 6)
The coming week isn't looking too flash with our current SE swell due to back off through tomorrow from 1-2ft (larger at spots exposed to the south-east) and then from 1ft or so Wednesday.
Winds tomorrow morning look better with a variable breeze through the morning, tending SE through the day and then N/NW tending S'ly winds Wednesday.
The next increase in swell is due through Friday but to no major size. A weak polar front pushing towards us through the middle of this week should produce a kick in size through Friday to 2ft into the afternoon, easing from a similar size Saturday.
Winds will unfortunately swing onshore as a weak trough associated with the swell generating front moves through bringing a fresh S/SE change during the morning. Saturday also looks to remain onshore from the S/SW to S/SE with some weak S'ly windswell also in the mix.
Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards with a long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell due Monday/Tuesday but only to 2ft or so at this stage. W'ly winds will create clean conditions though. More on this Wednesday though.
