Slow ahead of a strong swell Wednesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 21st August)
Best Days: Monday for keen surfers, Wednesday, Thursday
Recap
Large strong S/SW groundswell to 4ft across Clifton yesterday with N'ly breezes, dropping back considerably this morning to 2ft.
This weekend and next week (Aug 22 - 28)
The weekend is looking really slow with tiny surf tomorrow and maybe the odd 1-2ft wave Sunday but with an early onshore change as a surface trough pushes across us.
Next week is looking a lot more interesting with a strong SW groundswell due mid-week.
Before this though a small 2ft of SW swell is due Monday morning with NW tending variable breezes.
Now, Wednesday's strong SW groundswell will be generated by a strong and multi-staged polar frontal progression pushing in from the west over the weekend and early next week, producing winds in the gale to severe-gale range.
A large SW groundswell will result, filling in Wednesday and peaking to a solid 3-5ft across Clifton into the afternoon. Conditions are looking excellent as well with a NW tending NE breeze. A drop in swell is then due Thursday from 3-4ft as morning N/NW winds give way to a shallow S/SE change.
Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards, but have a check back here on Monday for an update on Wednesday's swell. Have a great weekend!
