Great tomorrow, another good swell next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 19th August)
Best Days: Great Thursday, smaller and clean Friday, good new swell mid-next week
Recap
Solid easing waves after Monday afternoon's kick, with bumpy and dropping 3-4ft sets across Clifton. This morning was smaller and cleaner to 2ft.
This week and weekend (Aug 20 - 23)
There's no real change due to tomorrow's strong S/SW groundswell pulse with satellite observations picking up a good fetch of 30-45kt SW winds aimed through our southern swell window.
This swell should peak to 3-5ft across Clifton tomorrow morning ahead of a drop into the afternoon and further down from 2-3ft Friday morning.
Conditions will be excellent during the morning with N/NW winds, tending E/NE into the afternoon.
Friday should then see N/NW breezes all day.
Come Saturday the surf is due to be tiny, but a small background SW groundswell is due into the afternoon although to no major size. Offshore winds should persist all day though.
A small pulse of SW groundswell is due Sunday from a tight and intense low moving in from the west over the weekend, aiming a fetch of SW gales through our swell window.
This should produce a kick to 2ft+ later in the day Sunday but with onshore winds, before fading from a cleaner 1-2ft Monday morning.
Longer term a series of vigorous polar fronts moving in from the west next week should produce some good SW groundswell next week with the first pulse Wednesday likely to be at least to 3-4ft. Have a check back here Friday for a clearer idea on this.
