Recap

A building mix of W/SW groundswell and SW swell were seen yesterday with slower and smaller 2-3ft waves at dawn, jacking in size through the day as winds tended onshore.

This morning there was a solid mix of easing swells still on offer with 3-4ft sets under light but increasing offshore winds.

This weekend and next week (Jul 4 – 10)

Tomorrow morning should be a low point in swell activity with early W/NW winds that are expected to swing more W/SW through the day, but may just hold from the W.

A strong new SW swell should start to show into the afternoon though, generated by a vigorous polar low currently south-west of us, aiming a fetch of W/SW gales through our swell window. This low will project up towards us today and tomorrow, with a better aligned fetch of trailing S/SW gales on its tail, generating a strong SW groundswell for Sunday morning, with a reinforcing S/SW pulse for the afternoon.

Clifton should kick to 3-4ft later tomorrow, and then peak Sunday to 3-5ft or so.

A drop in size out of the S/SW is then due Monday from 3ft or so, down to 2ft into the afternoon.

Winds Sunday are now looking dicey with an early W/NW'ly now due to swing SW and then SE through the afternoon. Come Monday unfavourable E/NE winds are due, so you'll have to think outside the box.

For the rest of the week small amounts of S/SE swell are due from a persistent fetch of strong polar S/SE winds in our swell window Sunday through Tuesday morning, but obly to 2ft or so.

This swell should come in Tuesday and Wednesday before easing into Thursday.

Winds should improve as well and swing N'ly.

Longer term there's nothing significant due until a possible cold outbreak occurs over us Monday week, but we'll have a closer look at this Monday. Have a great weekend.
